DP Motorsport Lightweight 911

I wasn't sure if this has been posted yet. I've seen some pics of this car coming together but I wasn't aware it was finished.

Starting with a 1973 911 base, dp stripped it back to an absolutely bare bodyshell before fitting the dp11 RS 2011 body kit. Constructed from carbon fibre, the kit consists of a replacement front and rear bumper, hood, fenders, fender flares, rear spoiler – and even the roof panel. Not stopping there, dp also fitted Plexiglas windows, lightweight lamp lenses and tail lamp holders.

Inside, the 911 is equally impressive, with the cabin featuring a carbon dashboard section, sill trims and dp 935 bucket seats finished in Alcantara and leather, along with an extensive, welded-in roll cage. Under the hood there’s a 70 litre Clubsport tank and strut brace.

In the rear sits a 228 kW (310 hp) 3.6 L boxer engine, which is fed by a pair of 50 mm PMO carburettors and mated to a G-50 transmission with a limited slip differential. Chassis upgrades include dp coilovers, adjustable stabilizers, and a 964 braking system, while those iconic Fuchs wheels are sized 9 and 13 x 15-inches, and wrapped in 225/50 and 345/35 rubber.

The result of dp’s carbon diet means that this 911 now tips the scales at 870 kg. Impressive when you realise that a standard car weighs between 1,080 to 1,335 kg – depending on the model.

It's been done for a while and there was another post about it when it debuted at Techno Classica Essen. But these are new pics, so worthy of a repost.

So these folks are driving around on the street with a full cage. Ok.

Hey, I do it. Not saying it is correct but I do it. Mine is not as stout as that. Just a bolt-in.

Flieger 11-14-2011 05:29 PM

That one looks like it tucks up to the A pillars much tighter.

Is it a problem if you're properly strapped in?

draab29 11-14-2011 05:51 PM

Clean

That car has the perfect stance :)

Gorgeous. I love the Zuffenhaus Fuchs but when it comes down to it nothing looks better on a 911 than wide 15s

The problem is the risk it poses to other drivers. If you were to get in an accident with another vehicle you would go right through it and probably kill the people in it. However your point still stands that you would be pretty safe!

You being serious? Majority of cages don't even alter the caged cars crumple zones...how do you suppose a caged car becomes a torpedo? Even if it were such that the caged car sacrificed all of its crumple-ability, the only person you would be putting at significantly higher risk would be yourself due to the higher g loads.

I don't think the cage will put anyone else in danger. A 2000lb caged car is still going to loose to a 4 tonne SUV. It should hold up better tho. It's the cage being closer to your head that is the risk. I'm adding a cage to my '66 for some protection from all these text-messaging tanks on the road.

Great pics BTW. :)
