3rd Brake Light Wiring Problems
Thanks in advance for any insight.
I just finished wiring a Daniel Stern Hella 3rd brake light on my 81sc. As per the Pelican thread I used a snap lock (blue) connector over the yellow and black wire coming from the 6? prong plug going to the light assembly on the back right side. This was my positive feed for the Hella unit. For the ground i put a round terminal over the stud on the fan housing that has all the braided wires coming from the distributor. I assumed this to be a ground. When I stepped on the brake the Hella did not come on and my Right brake light was now twice as bright as my left:eek: I tried other grounds and got nothing. Any Ideas? |
That is strange, I have DS's 3rd light as well.
I tapped off the right rear Yellow with black and ground to the hinge where the ground strap is. Time to get out the DVM and check that wire tap or try switching the wires from the 3rd light. From DS's light, the red with black goes to ground, black goes to the tap. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...310_192139.jpg Jim |
Thanks Draco. It was my snap lock connector. Blue is too big, I got the red size. Works great. BTW, for the Hella (which is a great unit) Black with red wire is positive all Black wire is ground. Yellow with black is brake light.

You may be correct because I did re-splice at the 3rd light when I had a LED strip bar previously.
Glad you got it to work. You are probably aware but the light lens is adjustable to chose the correct angle of vision. I really like this product very bright and turns on faster then the OEM lights. |
