Bob:
You may be correct. The OP's car may have a mix of early and late evaporative emission controls. He will need to see what he can cobble together. |
I thank you for the link to the photos. I will go check the arrangement. It looks correct. My canister is shaped a little differently, it is more symmetrical. I am sure this is the location it belongs and I will check the mounting situation. Thanks again.

That is the charcoal cannaster that is connected to the vapor side of the gas tank. The end without a hose goes to the intake of the Air Box. It is to pull vapors off the gas tank and recirc them back into the engine.
There should be a opening ( that may be plugged) on the passenger side of the air box below the air filter where it connects. If you can't find a connection you can just plug the cannister. SteveKJr "A Porsche does more then just go fast in a straight line" |
My plan during the Christmas break is to spend some time under the hood with a flashlight and a mirror and finalize this issue. Thanks for the ongoing help. I think the question is 77 chassis with 85. 3.2 and the changes of plumbing that may have occurred. This car is full smog legal in Calif. no small feat these days. I suppose another option is to get it to a person who knows smog and have them eyeball it. I have two years before my next smog re certification. I have some time to sort it out. It was just Tested 2 months ago and they are very strict around here.
