final two

when you bought your dream Porsche, what other car was in your head to buy, besides the Porsche. Maybe couldnt afford,or find? Mine was a 1964 GTO. I know its a far cry from a sports car,buy thats what I was also looking for.

At the time... None that was it. I was dead set on the car I bought. I watched it for ten years then it became available.

Second place.......

was a Series 1 E-Type coupe. At the time I could not find one for a reasonable price. It is still on my very short list of cars to own.

My father had a restored 1964 Jag E-Type. It was a fantastic car! He had the entire thing rebuilt, repainted, etc. He sold it in the late 1980s for $15k. Some days the thing just would not run, which was always disappointing.

Another dream car? None! I've known I wanted my car since I was three. I never wavered. I finally bought my perfect car 9 years ago. I've never looked back!

A 64 GTO was the first car I ever owned...my high school ride. Even in 1977 it was a stand out car. Sold it in the early 80's for $1700.00. Man I wish I had the sense to keep it.

As far as another car the 911 is all I have ever wanted. I have no idea why I waited so long to buy one. If I could afford it I wish I had a 997 to go along with the 88-911

Wartching fast five last night my boys asked if I'd take the GT40 on a trade for my beloved Porsche which I replied absolutely, so I could sell it and get 5 of mine.

I had a 1968 Lotus Elan for a short while. Way too many problems by the time I got it. I still have a factory shop manual for the Elan if you ever need one! (And if you own a Lotus, you will need one!)

Every car I have ever purchased, Porsche was my 1st choice. But, being young and poor, Porsche never made the cut. Instead, I got a 68 VW Bug, then a '73 Monty Carlo, then a '66 Chevelle, then a '84 Celebrity, then a '91 Celebrity, then a '88 528e, then a '74 914, then a '88 944, and finally a '74 911.

All that said, the Chevelle, Monty Carlo, and 911 are my favorites! never had a new car and never had a car payment in my life.

My first car was an 88 924s that was given to me by a family friend because it was in horrible shape and didnt work. That turned in to a 78SC Targa, its been Porsche since day 1 and it will be Porsche until the end.

Dave

interesting thread

My Porsche made it to the top but my short list included uniqueness rather than sporty. I had an Amphicar, but it needed way too much work to ever finish. I sold it but now I do regret it. The third unique car is the BMW Isetta, the egg on wheels. Never got close enough to buy one. The 72 911T became available at a price I could not pass up. It is not on the road yet, but I hope to be driving it soon.

I was pretty sure I wanted a 911, but I considered a lot of other cars. Newer and older BMWs, E39 M5 and E46 M3, E30 M3, an E9 coupe or an E24 M6. Also saw a few Alfas that caught my eye, boat tail spiders and an early 70s GTV. Finally a lotus elan had me interested as well, but the only other car I really considered in the end was a 356.

I love all those cars and hope to own each of them at some point but chose a 911 because its reliable, there is a great maintenence support network here, good examples are not too hard to find and not too expensive, but they are beautiful and unique enough to turn heads. Its also a great performer that you can drive every day.

Best. Car. Ever.

I think you are the first person I have ever heard of who owned a Celebrity and then actually bought another Celebrity!! Wow. Didn't that car make the top ten list of worst cars ever built by GM?

I almost pulled the trigger on a BMW 335i Hardtop Convertable but the wife freaked on the price. Bought the 87 Targa and never looked back!!
