Up to temp
I take my 85 targa out about twice a week in winter(when streets are salt free),and warm it up and "get on it" a few times. But,its cold as hell and windy,so I wonder if oil gets warm enough to redline it. When does thermostat open up? or doesnt it?the gauge barely gets out of first big white mark. Is it OK to run it hard?? Damn,I miss summer...thanks

I think the thermostat opens at about 83-87C.
Are you getting oil circulating to the front cooler? What oil are you running? |
Engine mounted thermostat.
Opens around 185F.

It's tough to get them up to "red line" temp in the winter. I can be done but it takes some driving time and distance to do it.
