Front shocks need help ID and disassemble

Hi

I want to take the top mount off my front shocks on my carrera 3.0

I simply Cannot make the nut move. What is the trick? I have had it in a vise etc. now it is soaking in PB.

I do not have a special strut tool.

Btw The struts are off the car along with the top mount.

Also, how do I ID what type of shock insert I have. There is no numbers on the housing. It is just black. Can it only be determined once I have removed the insert?

Just for info. The backs are yellow Konis.

Spin it off with an air/impact gun.

leverage. use a breaker bar with a pipe over it to make it longer. I use a hollow jack handle.

Black Strut Housing

Black normally = Boge struts and originally Boge strut inserts. A few choices for replacements by Boge, Bilstein and Koni.

I think I used a pipe wrench to break the top nut free.

Good luck,

Gordo

internal or external threads? mine were external so the "nut" had a hex (allen) shape in the top... I made a steel hex to fit inside and a hole to go over the shock...then a regular wrench....didnt damage any paint or risk distorting the nut itself. came off easy...then drained oil all over the place and made a mess
