GT2 Evo Cams for a 930
Anybody have any experience with these? They would be for a hopped up 930 with a Motec 48 Pro engine management system. Driveability? What do they do to the boost curve? Is the overlap radical? Can they be used and still give a decent idle and smog with a tune-able system like Motec?
All replies much appreciated. |

Bruce , Im in the process of installing them in my Turbo 3.2 converted to 3.3 carrera so i let you know the results they are suppose to be good for 4500 rpm or so and will help on early boost.

Juan--
Excellent. Thanks for the response. I'm not sure what you mean by "good for 4500 rpm or so", though. Do you mean that their power band is at 4500 rpm? Who told you about the early boost? My wrench is recommending them for my car, but I'd like to hear what you know, too. |

Bruce, according to Todd of Protomotive, a GT2 EVO cam works great on everything they've put it in so far. Only the idle is mildly annoying (tunable via the Motec I guess), but it makes more torque and power than anything else they've run on the street. Otherwise, a 20/21 is like going from a 3.2 to a 964, but up from there, almost .500" lift a little more duration, really steep ramps for more top end, but it needs really good valve springs.
HP increase is between 15-20HP, BUT boost response and torque increase is the main reason to go for them. Apparently peak torque comes in much earlier ![]() Hope this extra info helps

Wyd Ryd--
Yes, it does. I got in touch with Todd by e-mail and he corroborates everything. I'm definitely psyched! Anything that lowers the torque curve but doesn't lose me top end I'm all for! The lumpy idle is fine, unless it's so lumpy the smog guys won't pass it. We'll see. Kinda hard to see the down-side of these cams at this point, as long as you've got a good programmable engine management system... My valve springs should be fine. I went with "competition" springs and titanium retainers in the first build. This thing should rock. Now comes my least favorite part: the waiting... Bruce |

Bruce, I'm glad Todd was able to shed more light on this for you.
Did you end up getting pricing from him? I think he's quite competitive and the after-sales support is great. (No affiliation, just a HAPPY customer

Guys you can also send your cams to WEB CAM and they will reground them and make them EVO2 thats what we did with mine they are not ready yet but i let you know the outcome.
Bruce I went into the web page to look at your car and combination and i have to tell you that the numbers are impressive so i have a few questions 1) The dyno runs were made with 104 Octane so whats the HP with lets said 98 Octane? 2) Why the DREAM ENGINE don't come with evo 2 cams? must hot rod gurus use them? 3) They mention a 3.6 Crank so im a little confuse there, whats the end result she is a 3.3 or ? 4) Have you have her in the 1/4 mile and what she ran? I have to tell you that im happy that i keep finding more and more people with hot rod 911s it sure make it easy for all of us to share notes Thanks for the help Regards Juan 3.2 Undercovercool::
