'IF' any of the last 74MY Carrera's were factory fitted with a whaletail pre-delivery (ROW only ..and also remember it was an option).

jsoderbe - This is a blue/black interior '74 interior. The photo was from inside a garage so the flash went off, the faded carpet looks very light. If you need something more specific let me know

The COA says tweed/twill, which I guess would be fabric instead of leather.

Are you referring to the metal latch? You seem to be if memory serves me cataloging all tail documentation?

@johan - Sorry, I was going to take a better photo of the doors for you and forgot. In the one already posted above, you can almost tell that the door card is covered in blue and the trim (upper trim, handle, and pockets) are black. All dash components are black. So, in my car the blue is limited to the seat surfaces and the door card - and, I was told, the carpet was blue before it faded to various shades of green.

I would have guessed that factory sport seat would have come standard in the Carrera, no?

Did you happen to get a COA for our car? It would be very interesting to get the interior number and description.

I am a little concerned, my car is guards red with black/blue interior, and it sounds like a so-so combination....

So, I have another couple of questions regarding the Carrera for you experts!

- the black window trim and other trim; was that anodized like on the later cars, or just painted?
- are the other gagues except speedo and tacho the same as stock?
- are there any RS reinforcements bodywise on the 1974 carrera?
- the rear fender flares, are they RS or SC flares on an early (sub-500) 1974 carrera?

Answers would be very appreciated!

Yes , the metal latch support (but the latch fastening holes would be elongated , the photo I posted is of an earlier alloy piece. Getting deeper into the supposed referance by Ludvigsen (I have not seen it myself)....I would guess he was mistaken. Whaletails were in existance by late 74MY , but I doubt highly that any were delivered on any customer production cars (i'm not refering to RS 3.0). I would have to see some factory doc. to believe that. A special car for a factory insider , or some other factory purpose ...possible. But not for any customer delivered production cars. Someone can prove me wrong with documentation , but that is my stance until . I am always ready to learn.

I believe the only issue is DE home market delivery 1974MY cars . I have heard thay had problems in late 73MY with TUV in DE regarding ducktails . From what I remember , DE home market 1974MY , m473 optioned carreras were delivered with the Ducktail off the car (and this might have happened with late 1973MY carreras also....?).


I have seem a bunch of ROW 74's , none an original owner m473 ordered car (or original paint if not original owner) ...claiming to have been delivered with a whaletail. Or any factory documentation regarding this issue. Anyone have a 1973 (or very early 1974) dated 74MY parts book ? That would probably tell the story.

And to your 2nd question . I've been examing them pretty closely (only pre-81MY GfK units).

Anyone have a june built (or a july if any were built , there was in 1973) 74MY car that has original paint ? I would be curious to examine it . Decal or metal badge for instance.

Window trim is all anodized (and fades in the sun)

Gauge package is all the same; only the tach is different between US and ROW cars due to redline

Early '74 cars had some reinforcing plates around the rear torsion bar tube, like the late '73 RS cars. I don't know where the cutoff was on that

Good question on the flares; I'm going to have to go look at my November build car.
