Stock stereo?
Took delivery of my 85 targa today, shipped from the UK to Australia.
Unfortunately the front of the stereo didnt make it with the car. Is this the stereo that was sold with the car? What model is it? I made a brief attempt at removing it but not yet worked out how to detach. ![]() Many thanks Ed. |

I believe the mid 80's stock stereo was a Blaupunkt model - either Reno or Charleston - without a detachable face. Plus, in the '85 cars, you would have a cassette slot and not a CD slot.
So that looks like an aftermarket stereo.

I think these come out with a set of tools that fits into vertical slots on either side of the unit. Most radio shops should have them.

Try paper clips, two of them with the ends inserted in the four holes. The unit should then slide out.

DIY: Single din removal tool
G'day Ed,
It appears that the the HU in your new car is already an aftermarket unit. A pair or single din "pullers" are used to pop the head unit out. ![]() Some use paper clips, others recycle wire hanger provided by dry cleaners...just snip the left and right ends of the wire hanger (C or U shape), adjust a bit and it should suffice as a DIY single din HU removal tool...insert as a pair. If you prefer an OEM stereo head unit, I have a spare Porsche-Becker CDR-220 (AM/FM/CD/AUX, etc) that will look "stock" without the bling factor. I could have it arranged brought down under by mum in about two weeks. PM/EMAIL me if you have other questions and let me know if you are interested. ![]() Have a good day mate!
