Porsche Crest Msd Tach Adapter 8920.

I have just put a crane optical trigger with msd in my distributor. It is working fine but I cant seem to get the tach to work with 8920 tach adapter. Can anyone help with wiring. How have you wired yours. Thanks.

I didn't need a tach adapter with my MSD. I don't have a Crane optical - I have a Pertronix, but that shouldn't matter as the signal comes from the CDI.

The tach can be connected by running a wire directly from the new MSD unit tach output, to the black and purple stripped wire side of the white connector for the old tach connection in the engine compartment.

I had A pertronix and with it I had to use a msd 8910 tach adapter. The crane optical trigger says to use a msd 8920 tach adapter but I can not seem to get it to work. I have hooked the tach wire black and purple strait to the msd tach port but it does not work either. Thanks.

Which MSD CDI box are you running?

What tachometer do you have?

If you are triggering an MSD Blaster, 5, 6, SCI, or 7 Series Ignition with its white wire or points terminal, you will need the PN 8910 Tach Adapter.

If you are using the magnetic pick-up input (green and violet wires) to trigger your MSD Ignition, you will need the PN 8920 Tach Adapter.

I am using a msd 6A pn.6200 and blaster2 coil. Am trying to use a 8920 tach adapter because the crane optical trigger instructions say to use that tach apadter and not a 8910.

Ok, thanks:

Red - to switched power.

Black - to good chassis ground

Violet - to the tachometer

White - to tach signal from MSD

No problem. I know for certain that's how mine is setup but that's with a stock magnetic trigger distributor. Let me know if you need pictures or any other details.

Thanks Tomeric914. I wired it that and it still did not work. Does anybody have a Crane Optical Trigger Running msd and a 8920 tach adapter. If so how did you wire up the set up. Thanks.

Did you just install the Crane optical trigger or have you had it on the engine for a while before you changed to the MSD?

Does the crane have some sort of indicator light to show that it is working?
