Like the Porsche family, Shelby was directly involved in creating the cars that bore his name. Today very few auto companies are run by the people who created them, but those that are seem to have a special appeal to enthusiasts.
Shelby's latest "authorized biography" has just been published, but his unauthorized biography would be a lot more interesting! Frank |

One of his best quotes
Old Man Ferrari offered me a job and I said, ‘Well, Mr. Ferrari, I have a family, three children, what kinda money?' He says, ‘Oh, it's an honor to drive for Ferrari.' And I said, ‘Well, I'm sorry, I can't afford the honor.

Cobra Assy Line.
I was acquained with one of the Shelby sales employees who walked
me through the Cobra assembly line in the former North American Aircraft facility. It was very impressive. Ferdinand, Zora, Carroll, they are all racing in heaven now. They were, and still are the very best.

To j911brick: perhaps there wasn't a mention here because of the thread in the "off topic" portion of the site.
As sad an event as it is, is isn't really a "911 technical forum" one, as contributors to various parts of this site share the sadness of his passing and celebration of his life & works. |
