G50 Shift Knobs

http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/a...GearKnob-1.jpg

There used to be a 72 style gear knob available with the correct shift pattern for a G50 and we have justed fitted a 3.6 964 motor into an 88 3.2 Carrera and want to complete a backdate.

Anyone know where to source this shift knob?

I wonder if that would be the whole knob or just the centre insert that snaps into place. I'm also interested in knowing about this.

+2, that is a sweet-looking knob and I would be in the market for a replacement.

Here is one in a Singer 911 that looks similar. Also, anybody make a boot/ cup like this?

Would any modifications have to be done to the shifter to accept this knob?http://i972.photobucket.com/albums/a...d60eee401f.jpg

Come on si Banker! Don't leave us hanging!

I don't understand how this knob is for a '72.

http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/a...GearKnob-1.jpg

In '72 the 915 was introduced and reverse is "below" 5th gear on the right side of the pattern. And it wasn't a 901 knob pattern because that transmission has a dogleg pattern where 1st is down and to the left, with 2nd being straight up the gate.

It is a reproduction. I did find out the shifter itself is a square shape. So you would have to have an adapter to make it work. Looking at the Singer shifter, i wonder if they just put a round bar over the stock shifter?

Anyone ever find a source for an early style knob w/ G50 5-speed pattern????

Here's a pic of my gearshift knob for my 87 carrera that I made out of East Indian Rosewood and inserted the shift pattern plastic piece into the knob

Anyone ever find a source for an early style shift knob with a G50 pattern on the top?

cnielsen 10-05-2015 06:36 PM

I need one also.

Old subject that I just happened upon, but in case it's still a need I found this:
Canford Classics - Classic Porsche Restoration & Parts Refurbishment

That's cool but it's not for a G50.

aread 11-02-2016 07:57 PM

I'm bumping this, as I too would be interested in this

My not early style shifter knob - I like this better than the factory look. Just your basic ball. About 2 mm larger than stock, 30 grams heavier.
