Do I want Webers? EFI? Or stick with CIS?
Hi all,
Since I was formerly at altitude (In Denver) and having carbs was a bit of a pain in the butt, I never really considered them. But now I'm at sea level, and I'm thinking about it. I love how they look, I love how they sound, and I love how much cleaner the engine compartment is with carbs. But...is it worth the hassle? The engine is a rebuilt 79 Euro SC motor with low mileage. If I did get carbs...which ones? And what's a complete CIS worth, if I decide to sell? Thanks! mto |
Guess warmup is not a big issue in San Diego, so go with carbs.

If you are new to carbs then PMO is the answer. For your car 40's or 46's will work. 40's are preferred. With CIS pistons and cams you will not have optimal performance, but you are guaranteed more fun and will impress your friends.
The CIS is a better system for your engine. But if you are planning on increasing the performance later with a displacement increase and some cams then go big 46's I ran them on my car before I rebuilt to a 3.2SS and they were great. |

I was thinking megasquirt too...

I'm partial to EFI...............but i could be wrong.

My car was converted to Webers when the previous owner re-built the motor to bigger displacement. It sounds cool, it looks cool and I even have grown to like the popping on cold starts. Adjusting them and using the autosyn was even cool the first hundred times, but now I'm jonesing for EFI.

I'm going to try efi with a Bitzracing kit for my first venture. I should have it here next week to begin the install. I made my "clean look" intake from some spare parts I picked up, so I'll just remove the CIS as a complete unit and shelf it.
Once I learn the megasquirt system and all about tuning EFI I'll see where that leads! (EDIS?) Oh, the slippery slope.... :) |
that triumph stuff is voodoo, go with MFI sliders

If your car is old enough, you can change/motify it. I'm sure you are aware of the rules, regulations, requirements, etc.,etc. in Kali. As Shane said, your engine isn't set up to run optimally on carbs. I don't know about EFI vs. CIS cams & pistons. However that doesn't mean you can't convert anyway and do upgrades the match the carbs/EFI later on. If you're going the carburetor route, PMO's are probably the best way to go. My engine is set up for carbs and EFI (I guess) if the pistons & cams (E cams & J&E pistons) work OK with EFI. It doesn't run right now because it's not in the car, but when the time comes to put it in the car & get it running, I'm thinking of "al kosmal"'s EFI setup if I can afford it at the time. I've had Webers, and I think I'd prefer EFI over them for reasons "Quickstep 192" hinted at.

Step into the 21st century with EFI/ITB......
|
EFI.
Start with a system on your current manifold. Then add the ITB or other induction when you have more time/money. That early 3.0 is just begging for boost. you have the tire for it too! |
Just found this.....I know OBX headers are not always great, so not sure what these would be like :

CIS is more reliable compared to the older carb setups...but I think I would be partial to an EFI setup with the technology with what it is today. |
Yes, best of both worlds.

So JPNovak...I'm not remotely an engineer. What would you recommend?
