1985 Carrera factory alignment specifications.
After doing an extended search, I found out a LOT about aligning these cars. Wow. If I ever do any HPDE, I know EXACTLY where to go to get ideas.
What I didn't find were the straight specs from the factory. Now maybe they are in Bentley, and I just haven't found them, but if they are hiding there, maybe a not-so-subtle hint about where in Bentley they might be found??? We don't have a shop around here that can corner balance and align - only a regular alignment shop. I have turbo tie rods waiting to install, but first I need to know what the specs are, AND if the local shop can even do the align job. This car is stock and just a street car, with some small amount of spirited driving thrown in. The tires will be Kumho Ecsta ASX no-season tires, and I'm looking to get some reasonable life out of them. No DE are planned at this time. Maybe someday, but that's a new conversation. For that kind of car, what do you think my specs should be? And why? (I'm still learning here, so any information I get is great.) |
Eric,
A good street setup would be -1.0 front and -1.5 rear negative camber or even better -1.5 and -2.0 if you can achieve it, along with max front castor which will vary between 5.7 and 6.0 depending on your car and 1/16 toe in at all four corners. Of course, should you decide to go play DE with your car eventually you will need more aggressive camber all around and maybe 0.0 or 1/32 toe out in front. Any decent shop should be able to get those numbers for you ! Cheers ! Phil |

Eric: The 5.7-6.0 degrees caster that Phil mentions is really the max you'll get on a stock Carrera when strut mounts are pushed all the way aft.
Max caster (all other things being equal) will improve straight-line tracking at speed. Per your initial question, factory (per Bentley p. 440-7) alignment specs are: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1346178401.jpg Good luck Dale |
