Please assist - Wayne would like some Pelican Parts feedback...

Hi all. Simply put - I just hired a new COO (Chief Operating Officer), a fellow named John Nutt. He just started here at Pelican, and he's going around evaluating what is working well, what is not working well, and what is about to fall apart and implode. Although there have been many feedback threads on the forums about Pelican (mostly positive, thank you!), I would like the opportunity to provide him with some current thoughts and feedback about Pelican, the catalog, the forums, and anything you might wish to share (good and bad). I will try to have a drink of JD or Jager prior to reading!

Many thanks!

-Wayne

P.S. 2013 is looking up to be a great year for Pelican - we have a lot of new improvements, changes and updates coming that have been postponed for a long time.

As a fellow forum owner/operator I think everything works fairly well. At peak times forum request deliveries take some time, often I click away to do other things because its slow. Other than that no complaints, keep up the good work!

zippy_gg 12-05-2012 10:01 PM

Wayne, do you want only feedback or are suggestions OK?
A suggestion dear to me is about "Projects". If I want to print what is in my projects only text (part numbers) will come out but not the pictures that show on the screen.
Having the illustrations printed would be a very nice improvement.
Thanks for providing this forum!

I love this forum and the community that has developed here. For parts, Pelican almost always seems to offer better value than anyone out there, but where it does not, tie (or something close) goes to PP.

Thanks guys. I wanted to solicit feedback on *all* of Pelican. Comments on the forums are welcome, but also looking for comments on our ordering, catalog, Customer Service, tech articles, you name it. I promise, I will have a stiff drink prior to reading!

I forgot to mention that Glenn (sales) rocks!

Tough to critique my favorite site but here goes:

1. Forums: Great, this one is so large it needs organizing into sub catagories. Brakes, CIS, etc.
2. Ordering: Never a problem, easy to use.
3. Customer Service: used it once and you guys were great.
4. Shipping: most sites are now only $50 to get free shipping on ALL items. gowesty for example.
5. Tech Articles: some are very dated and need updating for NLA parts etc.
6. Special offers: Entered a number and it showed a different item than letter offered.

That's it Wayne, Now relax and just have a beer! :)

I'll jump in . Overseas orders . The online system is good and easy to use , but your shipping costs off shore cost more then other suppliers .
I can also order from other companies in CA with out incuring a sales tax.
I once ordered a air filter for a 76 only for it to arrive in the box 5 times the size of the item , and size matters when shipping .
Overall expand and help the overseas customer based and you will expand the business .

Stiff drink(s) all around...

Pros:
Hi...Being that I live 'out of town' as such I have always found that your sales, whether online or phone, have been very good. I have always received the correct parts and the delivery time's have been as good.

Cons: When ordering on line there is a feature that you may want to have a look at.

Once an item goes to the 'my cart' and I have not finished shopping - such as this evening - when I hit the 'back' button it does not take me back to the page that I was on... It will take me to the first page that I may have been on prior to actually making a purchase... It is not a big thing but it would be nice if it could be programmed to be able to do go back to the same page....Then again I could be doing something wrong...

Go ahead and tell me...I can handle it...I'm going to have a 'stiff drink' ;)

Oh...One more thing. Some times 'just' after I have purchased something I receive -within days - an email with a 'bonus coupon' with a reference number for a discount or a 'gift' the next time that I purchase something within a time limit... I keep missing out on the 'jelly beans :(

Cheers

Overall, Ihave no complaints.

A few years back, there was talk of a Wiki to consolidate some the tech data in the forum into a better way for future reference. Given the size of the forum and the complexity of some of the things posted, consolidating into a tidy format would be great. Perhaps organized like the shop manual.

Wayne

Shipping costs OS hurt And could be reviewed
The ability to carry a bit more performance parts for 911 motors and gearboxes would be great
Online ordering could sometimes do with a bit more detail
(ie) I have a 77 3.0 Carerra which has a special crankshaft and some special parts which can be a blend of 2.7 and 3.0 motors so ordering a gasket and bearing kit gets a bit piece meal
The forums rock
Thanks for providing a great service.

For me :

1) some tech articles need reviewing & consolidating

2) shipping costs are a factor , especially if I need 1-2 small items. Also agree with the OP that some boxes are oversized (happens with other companies too).
I know other O/S usres shop around to save shipping ; I 'd rather stick with one supplier (PP obviously) if possible.

Other than that , excellent site , no complaints. The search function works fine for me. Keep up the great work and don't resort to the bottle or asbestos underwear - not necessary!

+1 On shipping costs to Australia.

Love the forum, I would prefer to keep it as is, keeps the content rolling and refreshing. Also like the fact its not plagued with stickies. So what if people keep asking the same questions, it gets the dialogue going.

proffighter 12-05-2012 11:46 PM

Ok then:

As I live in Europe, I order maybe twice a year to save some tax, shipping etc. I do this since years and so I spent a nice amount of money here.

Everytime, when I received an order, Pelican sends me a voucher for a gift of any kind. The problem is, I never can use it as I don't need to order within the short time it is valid. Therefore I never can use it:(

I am sure there are many customers outside the USA with similar situation...

Second little thing: A couple of years ago I asked for a product not listed in the shop (ERP 935 spring plates). A few days later I was informed, that I can order it now throgh Pelican parts and it was added to the shop too.
Same situation a few months ago, asked for Mode Uniball camber plates, short answer: You don't sell Mode!

Why it's possible once and once not?

PS Still a great place to buy and be :-)

tassie targa 76 12-05-2012 11:48 PM

very happy with pelican

when looking at parts perhaps in the notes section as well as a few notes on how many of the particular part needed and what other parts might be needed

what about hyperlink to any tech info that relates to that part

for example in lets say ball joints, how many needed, locking washers and split pins including special tools but also a link to the how to page.

hope this makes sense and the ball joint is only a made up example,

any yes os freight can be a killer, makes it very hard to just order a gasket worth $5 when minimum freight is $37

while i understand that from your perspective its better if we wait and order a bunch of stuff at one time that dosent always work
,

keep up the great work supporting the porsche community

kindest regards Michael

kantgetnun 12-05-2012 11:53 PM

I've ordered several times, as a fairly new member and also new to the porsche world, the catalog can be somewhat confusing. Some descriptions are very vague. Beyond that, everything has been great. Orders ship super fast and mistake free. The forums are a wealth of knowledge.

cdrik915 12-06-2012 12:02 AM

To France , i find the cost of sending expensive.

Great forum anyway , and no problems with my orders.

Feedback from Australia

Guys,

1. love the general good service
2. Love the extent and range of parts
3. Am continually shocked at the shipping costs compared to other US based sellers
4. I Think the tech articles are great help but are seriously out of date in terms of technology. Where possible most of my searches on how to do things is done on UTube and I believe many of the tech articles could be converted to videos or alternatively get forum members to contribute applicable UTube articles
5. I think search utilities could be improved with a bunch of common most searched headings - this data could be retrieved via the google search engine and appropriately indexed for every day use.

Wayne loved your book on engine rebuild and have just finished my first - have about 500 klm on the new improved engine. It went well but again some simple videos would have saved my stupid mistakes - but I guess I learnt through making them.

Please keep up the great work

Vince

Love the forums, don't like the false "free shipping" claims that you make.

My shipping has never been free, very frustrating.

dimps8 12-06-2012 01:31 AM

++1 for shipping costs and speed to Australia. Seven years ago parts arrived very fast (5 days) now the last order took a while waiting for the order to be complete (I think you guys where waiting on a reg pivot pin from the supplier).

Great forum!:)
