911 Suspension Shops - Torsion Bar ?

Several years ago, I had the entire suspension out of my 76 911, I replaced every bushing, bearing, shock and torsion bar, it had sat for the better part of 10 years. I overdid it a bit and I need to make some adjustments.

I used too stiff of a torsion bar for my back and I'd like to add a little spring back in her step. I'm also planning on adding Elephant bushings to the front control arms, the rubber replacement is just too noisy. I'm already running ER bushings on the rear spring plates with no noise, very happy with them.

Any recommendations on torsion bars? Size? Vendor? Is gun drilled worth the extra cost? I intend to drive it, occasional autocross and DE event, no racing.

Lastly, I'd love some recommendations for a shop in the Northeast US that can index the bars, set the Euro ride height, corner balance and align her, I just didn't get it right, but I sure tried like hell.

I look forward to any advice.

Hi Gerry, I recommend giving Chuck and call at Elephant Racing. He helped me design the full system that I'm currently installing. I have the identical driving profile as you so I used rubber bushings and upgraded torsion bars, but nothing too stiff. Because I had some time to save up and buy the parts over the coarse of half a year, I opted for the hollow torsion bars. They are nice and light compared to solid T-bars.

Also, I added the quick change adjustable spring plates because I thought the additional cost would balance out when I pay to have the car corner balanced (their time costs).

Chuck was very helpful and told me which parts were the big difference items, and which were the little stuff. Here's my thread, if you want to see what I'm up to and what components I'm going with.

Craig, thanks for the tip and your story, very helpful...I'll give him a call for options.

Classic, IIRC I sized them as 930 bars, and I will be selling them so I will keep your contact info, just isn't going to be next week...

Anyone have a solid shop they work with in the upstate NY, CT, MA area? I'm willing to travel to get it done right.

Thanks all.
