Maintenance

Oil change overdue with 232,633 miles on the odometer... Knocked out a trans fluid swap while I was at it.

While waiting for a couple of Pelicanites for a breakfast run, I decided to check the lights around the car.

When I got to the rear passenger light assembly, I thought it was odd that I could see the light bulb filament. After checking the driver side, it was obvious the something was missing on the passenger side.

It did look like that some reflector was missing. The bad part is that I had the car for 10 years and I had never notice it...

After doing some Google searches, the US version has a lamp and an "Internal Reflector" as a side marker. I was hoping that it had came loose and would still be within the assembly. Not such luck and I could not find a part # for it.

Hopefully my Navy mate Richard (Pors1968) got one floating around if not I might have to fab one.

If anyone knows the part number for the Internal Reflector (circle in red) please post it.

Yes, that is what I meant by Fab one. Actually I got probably some broken one somewhere downstair.

Its probably what they did as the "original version" is two piece glued together to give it some thickness rigidity.

I rolled it...

...over to 140k Km on the odometer this morning on my way to Kelowna. I took the longer twisty route but enjoyed it the whole way. I started out at 6:15 am and got there 5 hours later. I actually found myself smiling at times as I drove along. Ya, I like this car.

Made an Internal Reflector for a Rear Light Assembly using an Ikea tray and driveway marker.

Flushed the brake fluid. Used the "air only" method for the first time with my pressure bleeder. Worked great and didn't have to worry about the hoses rupturing. Also found that one of the inner CV joint boots was torn

I changed the gearbox oil. Swepco 201 90 grade. The old oil after three years still looked great and no metal filings on the drain plug. So smiling.

In regard to my gearbox oil change.

The car shifted well already, but shifts beautifully well now. I can really fire it through from first to second. I could always shift down to first which I believe not all 915 boxes like to do.

I also gave it an Italian tune. There is a steep, very steep, road and I hit 60mph in second while really under load. It's not about the rev's it about the rev's while under heavy load

On my 83 SC Cab:
1) JWest Headlight Relay kit (easy install)
2) headlight on warning buzzer (home brew) - I've been meaning to do this for 11 years!

I need to do bleed my brakes too. The last time I did mine was when I had my calipers refreshed and I installed a set of speed bleeders. I need to pick up a pressure bleeder and try that method.

Mind sharing the buzzer info? Nothing like driving to work in the dark and parking in a lighted garage where you don’t realize/remember your lights are on.
