How to replace bulbs behind air/directional levers, middle of dash?
Trying to replace the three bulbs (brown wires) in my SC that backlight the Fan, etc. icons in the lever assembly, mid-dash, next to radio. Have the Osram bulbs, all light up, but WOW how do you get the bulbs into the associated holes?

I've done it with a flashlight, on my back, in a real knot. I replaced the fan light in the panel you're asking about. Those lights fit into little holders at the end of each wire and then sort of clip into place. If its not snug, it's not in, and may back or vibrate out.

I know about the contortions! But what happens when the socket does not fit into the dash-side receptacle? I'd read they can distort - I know I m having a very difficult time getting the bulb to stay in place. Hard push and they still do not sit in place. Grrr!

Those connectors melt, distort and snap all the time. That may be whey you can't get yours back into the holes... -- Matt

I just replaced all mine a couple weeks ago. It's a real pain. One of my sockets had the same problem, it would not stay in the press-fit recepticle.
I ended up wrapping some electrical tape around it, then it stayed in place. I also put some shrink wrap on the exposed ground connectors on each of them...these have been known to short out against the metal slider mechanisms. A good time to install a 3 amp fuse on the instrument lighting circuit at the headlight switch....a non-fused from the factory circuit known for burning up. Noone wants their 911 to burn to the ground!
