Question Jetronic harness removal help pls.

Hello Gents,

Removed CIS on my 82 SC 2 years ago, to put on PMO, cams, 3.2 heads twin plugs...
Last month took out seats to get recovered...
I had forgot about the Jetronic box under the Passenger seat.
Now I want to remove it with the electrical harness. Is there any other
Connection in that harness that belong to other electrical applications ???
I notice a branch of the same harness going to the front along side of the tunnel, where does it go ???
On the back, the harness is going thruw the vertical portion of the lower fire wall.
Where is that harness connected to, in the engine compartment ???
There is also 4 or 5 ground (brn) wires connected to the floor, under the box ,
are all these related to the Jetronic electrical system ???

How can I removed the harness ???

Regards

follow it back through the rear bulkhead, it goes to a 13 pin connector on the rear firewall, remove it and pull it out into the cabin, remove the box and bag the whole mess up. not sure why you want to save it but hey, in 20-30 years it might be worth something.

I pulled my Jetronic harness out into the engine bay when I removed it. The big metal connector that connects to the brain box can be dismantled (small flat-head screw at the end, then it slides apart). What's left of the connector *just* squeezes through the hole in the firewall once you remove the grommet.
There is another branch to the harness, it connects to the relay, and the relay is fed by existing power lines that go under the dash. I think they basically "clipped into" the pre-O2 harness. There is a HOT AT ALL TIMES wire down there, and a how when fuel pump is on wire. You cannot just ignore them. Either track them down and remove them from your system, or safely envelope them so they don't cause any issues.

ECU removal with wire harness......

The complete ECU and wire harness could be removed complete from the car as one unit or disconnect the main connector from the ECU. Here are the steps I did to recover the unit:
1). Disconnect the ECU mounting from the floor of the car.
2). Disconnect the brown wires from ground (floor).
3). Disconnect the red wire from the fuse panel (luggage compartment).
4). There is a rubber grommet by the firewall that holds the main harness going to the engine bay where the 12-pin connector is located. Pry the rubber grommet out towards the car's cabin. Pull the harness through the hole where the grommet was originally installed until the 12-pin comes out. Before pulling the wire harness, make sure that the 12-pin connector is free from any fastener or strap securing it.

If the wire harness and ECU are in good working condition, I'll be interested to buy them. Keep us posted.

Tony

Now they are out.......

Pierre,

Let me know if you want to sell this ECU with wire harness. I'm building another engine test stand and could use it. Thanks.

I do not intend to keep the ECU system.
If you want it PM me with an Offer.

Just curious, what's the magic to removing the 12 pin connector from the bracket on the cross member? Also in the process of removing my unit as a whole.

Thinking of mounting MSD boxes near back seat and making use of that whole to pass the wires into engine compartment.

Todd
