Why do I have two horn wires at steering column?
Hi guys,
I am finishing up my 1973 911 T Targa, and are just about to mount the steering wheel. Unfortunately it seems like I have one extra wire, brown/white: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1370705496.jpg I am guessing one of them goes to the horn ring? I can only connect one of them to the horn ring, and I dont know where the other one goes. I looked through the wire diagram, and can't find anything conclusive. I don't know which one to connect to the horn ring either. One of the wires enter the turn signal switch harness, the other one the wiper switch harness. And, my wipers doesnt work either. Could this be related? Any ideas would be very appreciated, since I want to start driving it....:) Regards, Johan |
I think this is the answer to your dilemma, and I use the word "think" because I'm used to seeing a solid brown wire in there, not two brown/white striped. However, take a look at the picture, below (thanks E Sully)
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1370738283.jpg Your shorter wire would connect to a ring connector and be screwed to the housing like the wire with the black insulated connector in the photo, above. Your longer wire will connect to the horn ring or the contact that touches the horn ring. The above is from an earlier style, hockey puck wheel so some components are different from the bow tie wheel on your 73 but the principle is the same. I'm sure someone who has done this will make any corrections to this post. |

Thanks Ossiblue,
Very appreciated, that makes sense. To be honest I am not sure what year my switches are, since I sourced them separately from the car. However they definstely are brown/white, hence my hesitation on which one to use.... Anyone? Regards, Johan |
Hmmm, I just found the solid brown wire and attached it. So I have still one too many brown/white wires....

One for city horn, one for country horn?

Hi, I dont know if that is normal. I checked the switches, and they are correct for 1970-1973. S everyone should have it.... :-)

There is a spare Brown/White wire. It is not normally used, but I have read it is there for optional steering wheels. If you search on the Brown/White wire you will see this is a common question when others have found it disconnected under the dash.
