2600 mile road trip in 911 sc for porsche parade
Hey everyone
in 3 weeks I will be heading to Traverse city MI from Denver Co for the 2013 Porsche parade. I will be taking my 911 sc weekend/track car. (unless I can find someone that will tow it to the parade and back ![]() recently I have replaced the suspension with a full setup from elephant racing, rebuild the steering rack, wheel bearings, all suspension, brakes, fuel pump and lines, oil lines, alternator, battery, exhaust, headers....ect. the engine and transmission were re-built 15K miles ago. the only thing I think that's needed is a valve adjustment and oil change before I head out... is there anything I am missing? besides tools and a spare is there anything else I should bring? anyone else from Colorado going this year? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I would bring a "fix a flat" kit along,it could save you some aggravation on the side of the road ...especially on such a long trip !
Gotta love those Tarett swaybars ![]() Cheers Phil

The only tools I needed on a 3600 cross country drive, and the subsequent 1500 miles driving around the other coast, were tools I loaned to others, floor jack, etc.
Only 1 quart of oil, too....compared to my buddy's car that used a quart of oil every 2nd tank of gas....love the SC's I go nowhere without: Oil Tire patch kit and inflator Floor jack Metric sockets, wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers and Allen wrenches Some spare nuts and bolts and electrical crimp connectors, crimp tool Electrical tape, duct tape and wire ties. Gloves, cool head , cell phone and AAA card Spare fan belt, plugs, cap and rotor, fuses. The more you bring, the less you'll need, and you won't have the exact thing you will need, so you'll add that to your kit for next time ![]()

I drive to Parade every year. This will be my 14th Parade this year. Only 1,100 miles this time.
My list of "stuff" is: Air pump, fix a flat, tire plug kit, lug wrench & jack. Spare fan belts and oil. Tire pressure gauge. Extra tools for tool kit. Screw drivers, sockets, vice grips, needle nose pliers, and new roll of paper towels. Tyveck painters suit as coveralls. Several sets of rubber gloves. One pair of mechanics gloves. Two large drum liner trash bags. Car wash stuff: car soap, wash mitt and bucket. Detail spray and glass cleaner. And towels.! I bring 3 to 4 qts oil and oil funnel. Funnel wrapped in plastic bag with towel. Two quality flashlights with fresh batteries. Small first aid kit. Fuses, DME relay, piece of trimmer line for fuel door. So far I have never need anything more than a screw driver, and the car wash stuff.

Expect your car to get filthy on the drive in.
![]() Parade will have a area to wash your car after you arrive. They sometime provide towels to dry the car but don't bet on it. I always bring everything but the water. Don't use the hotel towels. That really makes them mad. I even have a collapsible wash bucket to use.

thank you for all the suggestions. I have a spare but I'm guessing that with fix a flat just in case may be easer/better.
ear plugs will be a must. I think I need to bring a car cover as well for the overnight stays in the some what questionable hotels I will most likely be staying in.... (something to hide the interior) is a AAA membership going to help much if anything happens? anyone a member? |

I'm a AAA member. Also have towing with my insurance company that guarantees a flat bed.
Has anyone ever invented an organizer for the trunk that has pockets to store tools and such? That would be mighty handy. I had intended to drive up for the parade from Atlanta this year but work schedule and vacation schedule botched that up. I have a friend that lives in Traverse City so it was going to be perfect, except he is coming to Atlanta that week for a conference. Have a great trip! |
