As you can see those coupler`s are junk. Mine was not really that bad but he uses a diferent material when he rebuilds them. You`de be supprised the differece that makes. The shifter is another story. Mine has the factory short shifter in it but not required. Stick with factory if you do change it. Ed reworks the pins and tab plus some other stuff - hence "secret shifter"Send him your hole shifter - reason being I know it`s done right and he installs it in his car to fine tune it. Re-install and you`ll be amazed at the difference. Ed is a great guy, very smart and understands the shortcomings of the 915 linkage and shifter assembly.Plus he stands behind his work

Also, make sure it`s a factory short shifter. You`ll see Porsche part #`s on it. My `86 came w/one and I`ve heard a lot of the `86`s did but make sure. The stock standard shifter is fine to make my last post clear. I don`t think the aftermarkets will work with his kit - Ed, correct me if I`m wrong.

Shifter works perfectly with just the coupler service. Going to leave the rest alone for now...

My coupler was not bad but I went ahead and changed it. My shifter was junk. Had to do something, almost un-drivable. Sloppy and had to be careful not to grind gears, 4 to 3 downshift was scary. No more problems after the rebuild.

Anybody heard of Ed lately?

No answer back from PM or his site e-mail (info@thecouplerwhisperer.com).

Hopefully everything is alright.

I've been trying to reach him as well through his email address. I'd like to buy the secret shifter and return my core, but I've had no response over the last couple weeks.

Ive talked to Ed a couple of weeks ago, he is fine... but there is a family member that has taken a sickness. His priorities are correctly so.

Rightly so.

I put my shifter money in a safe deposit box to avoid 3rd degree burn on my thigh

Hi guys

been a while - Thanks Ferd for covering for me
Yes it is true I have been hard to reach and I am sorry - the website is still up and I have been doing my best to keep the orders filled - I think i will stop the secret shifter for the time being and just keep the bushing going as they are a lot less time consuming

My wife has taken illness and although I am not spending every second dealing with it/her I have not been in mood to talk in general - Life sometimes sends us things to deal with that we didnt plan. I have stepped down from many of my activities within the Porsche communitee and even in my social life - I am confident I will bounce back but for the time being - taking a sabatical from these things

Thank you all for the kind words and support - this is truly a great group to be a part of

All the best
Ed

So well then as I prolly only drive the old 911 not enough, apparently I had bought a completely assembled Ed Coupler Whisperer many years ago along with an extra set of bushings.
So today I came across these still in the envelope and I wondered what the heck they were. Then I remembered the transaction of many years ago and how over the top Ed was in making and delivering these.
Searching on pelican, I came to this old thread and only want say to Ed, if he still lurks here that your attention to detail and more importantly, your humanity is outstanding... Thank you for making these awesome and needed parts!
And; I hope that all is well as can be with you.
