Instrument panel. We looked at every option in aftermarket gauges, and finally came to the conclusion that there would be no better gauge than to stay with the original VDO's. We looked at replacing them because the originals were so cruddy. Well, one call to North Hollywood Speedometer solved all that. Harmut was such a pleasure to work with and his work is outstanding!! Just look what he turned these cruddy originals into! Yes, these are the same gauges with the exception of the speedometer. Had to have an electronic speedo to go with the G50 gearbox! We also upgraded to LED lighting, had a boost gauge installed in the tach, had the tach dampened, and reworked the clock to a quartz movement. His cosmetic restoration was perfect! Had the dials and pointers repainted and had our TAJ Motorsports logo silkscreened on the tach. Eye candy is what this is!!

Great project!

Question regarding the fender mounted oil cooler. Is the U shaped fitting that links the two coolers available or did you have that made?

Thanks

That is a -12AN 180 degree fitting from BAT. They have everything weird in the AN world and Porsche cooling products. Great guy to do business with.

My background is building and restoring vintage muscle cars, and I either replace these type cars suspension parts with beefier parts, or I simply box them or brace them to make them stiffer. This is my first Porsche, and simply looking at the lower control arms, they seemed like they could use some stiffening, so I came up with these. Besides, there was the aesthetic factor too. They looked cool!!

Tim has a good sense of stiffening. Those holey triangles were used by the factory on the rally cars!

I had no idea! Thanks for that tidbit of info. Is that your car in the photos? I really like your dolly. That mount up to the suspension points?

Ho ho no way that's not my car.

Just a link I saved for reference in the future when I get around to doing some chassis stiffening on my rickety '79 racecar. I figure if it was good enough for the factory SC/RS rally car, it's more than enough for my wimpy road race car.

I knew I was going to have to come up with something to fit here when I removed all the heater stuff, and was really dreading it. I looked all over for a cover for this but couldn't find one. I'm sure some of you readers probably know where to buy something like this, but our shop fabricates a lot, so we got out the old beat bag and hammer and came up with this!!

Wiring. Figured there was so much hodge-podging going on, we would just use the KISS method of wiring. Keep It Simple Stupid! Good old Hot Rod wiring harness kit will be just the trick to keep this all simple. Agree?

Remember earlier on I mentioned I was using square tubing for a reason? This is why, so I could better weld to these pieces of 12 ga. plate to the sub-frame assembly. Also, by welding these pieces in, it really stiffens up the 'cage' back there.

As with most every fabrication job we do here, we do it in cardboard first. Here is how we are bringing the 'tunnel' and the rear cage area together and working it into the floor pan.

Rip everything back apart to put it in primer and re-assemble yet one more time!

We've found that the more mock-up you do, the less problems you have later on. So we're mocking it all up once more.

We always try to come up with something that no one else has thought of, so we decided to put the "third brake light" and turn signals in the roof vents. We think it looks awsum!!!
