Update to 1983 Overheat no start -

HI Guys! I wanted to give you an update on the project! I FIXED IT! Turns out that yes, the heat from the engine melted the CDI. The C8 energy storage capacitor was failed open. (melted) - so I have a new Master Blaster coil as a spare, but the Black original coil is FINE! Green wire is FINE! And with an oil change (because of the heat) there were no metal fragments in the oil. A wicked catastrophe averted!!! I am SO RELIEVED!

Good outcome.

Work on the heat issues. It is worth it to be confident when the Heat is On.

Yes, I am sure there is still some fuzz from some critter that was in there when I bought the car... I removed as much of it as I could without completely removing the shroud. With the new plugs, new timing, and new oil, it seems a bit cooler. That stand-still traffic and the heat was a unique thing... I know better now, to pull over or GO HOME next time...

Cabrio,

Who did the repair on your CDI? Could you share this information with us? Thanks.

Tony,

Bob Ashlock on the board checked two CDI boxes for me for the cost of postage. Very thorough and professional. He would have done any repairs as well (at additional cost), but the box my mechanic said was bad was fine. I highly recommend him.

Great news, and glad it was a simple fix. Time to change fuel filter, air filter and verify you have a pop off valve on the air box.
