Tires on 17x7 + 17x9 Euromeisters
Hey guys,
I recently acquired a set of 17x7 + 17x9 Euromeisters they are going onto my 82 SC, i know that ideally i'd like to run 205/50 front and 255/40 rear tires, however i'm having trouble finding a matching set without going to high end tires. do any of you run a 215/45 front with 255/40 rear? can anyone think of any issues with that? anyone have pics of this combo on a car? cheers |
i have 225 45 but i had to roll driver side.
i have hankook v12,great tires at a low price |
would really like not to go with 225 at the front as its only 30mm narrower than the rear tire
while the wheel is 50mm narrower |
I swear by these Falken Azenis RT-615Ks. Very reasonable prices and great warm weather performance. We don't have real seasons here so I have no idea what happens when it gets cold...
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1383521732.jpg Not exactly the sizes you are looking for but I think workable alternatives. I just ordered the same wheels and researched several threads on fit and great dry/wet tires (not for snow) and ended up buying Continental Extreme Contact DW 225/45 ft and 255/40 rr. Don't know if they are considered hi-end but people who own them love them.

Nitto NT01 come in your desired sizes...I'm currently running what you're looking for.
Ran them today, lowest temp being 36deg F, which is not recommended. The amount of grip they provide ALL the time is phenominal. I didnt choose Falken or Toyo for a reason, the Nittos don't require a certain temperature or amount of time driven to perform... |
thanks guys, does anyone have experience of combining 215/45 and 255/40?
I'm curious as theoretically 215/45 has smaller outer diameter than 255/40.. |
I run 215/45 up front with 255/40 rears on custom 17x7/9.5" Fuchs/BBS wheels. Look at the pics in my garage.
I thought the 215/45's up front would be noticeably smaller than the rears and that's the look I wanted but they're really not, they're approx 24.6" overall diameter which is only 0.3" smaller than the OEM diameter. 205/50 is about the same overall diameter as 255/40 so that's why I didn't go with those, plus less tread and more sidewall. 225/45 is too big for a 7" rim IMO, and would be more likely to rub. I'll prolly keep the 215/45's up front forever and go with 265/40's in back next time. You shouldn't have any trouble finding 215/45, it's a fairly popular size. I'm running Continental Extreme Contact DW because they're cheap, light, and stick to the road surprisingly good: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Continental&tireModel=ExtremeCo ntact+DW&partnum=145WR7ECDWXL&vehicleSearch=false& fromCompare1=yes |
Hunt3r, your car looks great
I'm sold on the 215/45 idea, thanks |
I run these on my Mini Clubman and enjoy every mile behind the wheel. I'll be ordering a set for my IROC build shortly.

I've got this set of used Kumhos for sale:
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-used-parts-sale-wanted/767021-kumho-17-tires-sale.html (2) Kumho Ecsta SPT, 255-40-17 (2) Kumho Ecsta MX 225-45-17 FWIW, the overall diameters (25") are equivalent to 16" counterparts (205-55-16 and 245-45-16). Other than radically different wheel offsets, you shouldn't run into any OD interference or ride height issues. Sherwood |
I run 225 / 255 on mine in competition. I have the Dunlop z2, and really like them. I may try the BFG Rival next. I think the Hankook rs3 might be on clearance right now, they're stamping the new ones as 200tw to be SCCA legal next year. A very good tire too. All of these are summer only, and give up some rain performance for dry stick.
For front fitment, I got a slight touch of lh fender contact (unrolled) without my camber maxed. 215s might end up being a little more responsive, and will definitely fit, but I doubt you'd be able to tell even testing back to back. 245s fit better on 9" too if I can be picky. |
