If you must have a rear spoiler on a non wide-bodied car, consider a duck tail.

opinions vary, but a reasonable number seem to share the view that the whaletails and ducktail look oversize on a nonwidebody 911.
i wonder if we could organize one of the major aftermarket companies to make a 'downsized' whaletail and ducktail, say 3/4 size of the normal dimensions. |

Keep in mind the turbo tea tray tail adds about 40 lbs to the back of your car. I couldn't get mine off fast enough!!
It's also too wide for the narrower SC/Carrera. It's like a girl with a muffin top hanging over a nice shapely butt and legs!

Muffin top. Very funny. I prefer the clean look of the SC without a whale tale or Tea Tray, but is your car. Do what makes you happy. Gratuitous picture.

I'll have mine without, please.
My car did have the tail from the factory, but it was removed by the second owner way back in 1986. I consider that a plus, as if he hadn't removed it, I would have had to. Like others here, the whale tails and tea trays look visually overwhelming to me on a non-wide body 911. And I am a bit unusual in that I have never cared for ducks.

Note, even with the Carrera tail, which is a better balance, you will miss the basic lines of your car at times.

My preference is to use the tail that was first used on the '75 Carrera, then again on the '80 Weissach edition cars. Spoilers make a big difference in how these cars drive. For what it's worth, I don't like any tail on a targa or cab. I also don't like the 3.3 turbo tails on a narrow body car, or the all rubber tails on any car. I like the '75 Carrera tail better than the '75-'77 turbo tails or the 3.2 Carrera tails.

Is the question solely based on looks or you're talking performance?
IMO SC & Carrera (Looks) 1st no spoilers, 2nd Whale, 3rd duck, 4th Tea tray. Based on measured lift. SC & Carrera (Performance) 1st Tea Tray, 2nd Whale, 3rd, Duck, 4th No spoiler. reminder* any time you put a spoiler in the back you need one up front. |

I have a whale tail on my SC & love it!! wouldn't have it any other way!!
So its upto you, and don't let people who think that only wide bodies should have tails tell you otherwise ![]()

1. Buy a rubbber lip and install immediately.
2. Save the stock lid and hang it on the wall of the garage. 3. Source another lid and install the new wing on that one, have it all color matched and hang it on the wall next to the original lid. 4. Buy a duck tail and paint it to match. 5. Swap out lids depending on your mood and try to stop giggling whilst behind the wheel

I prefer a naked butt.
And when it comes to 911s, I prefer them to not have a spoiler, unless they are to be used in motorsport, where the spoiler is a definite benefit. |

I guess do what you want, but in my view sticking to the original car is best. Overall - have fun and enjoy the car I guess is my view.
