Help:'72 Seat belt reel spring install

Hello,
Could you tell or show us how to install the spring to the seat belt reel?
Photos or illustration would be helpful.

Thank you.
Takahiro.

Seat Belt Spring

It is confusing when you see the spring laying there, but the left side end goes onto the shaft and than you start winding up the spring till you come to the inner end and that end hooks onto the plastic housing.
Best thing is to pull out the seat belt as far as you can and than lock it into place. That way you can wind up the spring and with out retracting the belt and also when the spring is wound tight, you know it will not jamm up.

good luck

Wouldn't it be more prudent to replace the belt/retractor assembly? You have a 30 year old nylon belt and a now questionably dismantled and reassembled retractor/inertial reel. Our host sells OEM for $220 and a quick google search found a set of replacement belts/reels and receivers for less than $90.

Guys, thank you for your information.
As Fritz Peyerl wrote, the spring on the left picture should be reversed.
I tried to hook the end of the left side onto the shaft and wound up the spring to the end. Yes I did, but it was very laborious. I do not want to do anymore.

Thank you again for your input.

Go and buy a new belt. It took me and the wife about 2 hours to finally get mine together after having it almost together several times and have it fly apart!
