black out fuchs - with plastidip??
Hi!
Just came up with an idea, due to pictures I saw in the "hot rod" thread... I must admit, the bad ass look I so much like on F-models is not so easy with a G-model, due to the lack of pure 70s style. But G-model pictures with black out fuchs turn that impression perfectly. No I recently refurbished my 16 fuchs (polished rim, new paint) all by hand, so I dont't really want to "destroy" that hard work by simply powdercoating them (no return). Has anybody tried plastidip on fuchs? Should work as with any other rims, right? What do you say? some impressions: even steal rims do it!

Did mine, works great. There is a thread on this forum about it if you do a search you'll find it.

I'm not a fan of the all-black look, but Plastidipping is a good way to go IMO. A friend did it to his daily driver Dodge Challenger several months back, and the coating has held up well.

By the way, I didn't even mask the tires, just cleaned the wheels and sprayed. Took two cans for 5 coats. I love the look.

I am in the process of doing this but my project is currently halted because of the crazy cold weather. Ive managed to do the 2 fronts and still have to do the 2 rears.
Heres how mine are coming out so far ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Did mine in the fall- holds up well... Easy to do in place without taking the wheels off. Not sure about the total blackout look- might redo and leave the outside rim chrome.

I think it looks better with the shiny bits...unless you are fully ratted out.

I haven't done my wheels, yet. I have the cans, just haven't been able to make myself cover up that little bit of shine on an otherwise dark car.
I did spray my H4 trim rings and they came out better that I expected. Mine were painted body color and covered in rock chips. They were looking quite ratty. I hit them with several coats to fill in the low spots then went heavy on the last few coats. I found a heavier coat will settle to a smoother finish. I've got a couple of months of driving on them and the plasti-dip is holding up great. -J

I just went full on flat black powder coat. There was some anxiety involved, haha. After reading this thread and seeing how durable it is, probably should have just tried the Plastidip but no regrets now.

well, I guess the cost-vs-value balance lets plastidip win ;-)
