My 911 IROC tribute build
Hi, This is a write-up/picture album of me building my dream car. It have always been my dream to own a 911 that looks like the racers of the early seventies. After owning a 1968 912 and 1986 Carrera it was time to look for a project car to start off with. I'm a great fan of the 72 2.8 RSR but a 911 IROC gets the blood going as well.
I found a 83 SC that was already turned into a wide body. As I really do not have the time to go for a bear metal rebuild I decided to go for the IROC look. The project car: ![]() Before I started to take stuff off I drove it for the summer. Wasn't the prettiest car but at least it gave me time to get to know the car and did some thinking on how I was going to perform the transformation. I really hatted the later tea tray turbo tail, so I found me a original 75 Carrera tail with some rally lights to go with it. ![]() ![]() I went also for the blackout rim look ![]() That winter I dropped in a 3.6 engine: Although it was a 204 BHP engine I really wanted to have a bit more HP, so not only looks also performance. I dropped in a 3.6 with some goodies as a Steve Wong chip etc. ![]() Before: ![]() After: ![]() For a complete story on my engine conversion please see: 3.6 conversion And yes in the summer it was back on the road again, did some driving and smaller projects like installing a carbon RS heater fiber duct, RS door panels, wheels, Break and suspension upgrade. 944 T Fuchs 8j to the front 6J widened to 10J for the back: ![]() 22/29 torsion bars and some changes to enable easy height adjustments at the back of the car (I found this solution on this forum): ![]()

Winter again and now I went for the IROC look. I installed a front panel conversion to accommodate the 72 rows Setrab.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The front bumper had a great fit, no cutting, grinding, bending etc. went on like a glove. ![]() ![]() Front is now almost done, the back will be a different story....

Now I went to the back of the car and that was a complete different story as the "fit like a glove" of the front bumper wasn't the story of the bumper at the back.
As you can see in the picture below, the end of the bumper is almost flush with the engine deck lid. It had to move back for almost 1.5 inch and it was a bit to wide. ![]() I had to cut it in to pieces and put it back on the car to see if it really is possible to make it fit.... After a couple of beers and some motivational words of a fellow Porsche owner I decided to just give a go. ![]() ![]() Bumper is in one piece again!!! Hell did I know what it will take to make it smooth again…. ![]() ![]() After hours of putting on material and sanding, putting on material and sanding, putting on material and sanding, I think you drift by now….. The bumper was finally ready for paint!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I major hurdle was taken by now, the bumpers are ready for paint!!

Now the car was drivable again, I drove it myself to a company to fit in a roll bar. The thing is that I wanted a copy of the original IROC bar but a bit further in the back of the car, as far away from my head as possible, I do not wear a helmet in daily traffic
.So it is loosely based on the original IROC bar but more to the back and a bar for the seatbelts on the passenger side as well. Had to pull out most of the interior... ![]() ![]() ![]()

Yes, you’re definitely right. I'll loose the flag mirrors, I just couldn't do it this winter. I already bit off more than I could chew. Trying to do this between work and my fatherly duties.... the mirrors will go.
