Defroster operation
This is a very stupid question but I did not get an owner's manual with my car and winter is approaching...
The defroster knob on my '83 SC can be both pulled and/or turned (clockwise, about 90º). What does each of these do? |

Are you thinking of the rear window heater? It's a 2 step knob. Pull out for moderate defrost (I think only half the rear window gets warmed up). For full blast pull out and turn.

Mikkel,
Yes, that is the knob. I haven't noticed the two steps. I can either pull or turn. Maybe Targas are different... |

Just looked in the owners manual. Pull means moderate heat. Turn is full heat. So maybe I was wrong on having to both pull and turn? It seems simply turning the knob is enough for full blast.

Turning the knob kicks in the heated flag mirror defrosters?

Mikkel and John,
Thanks for the replies. The problem is that the weather has been very nice since I bought the car in May and I haven't needed to use the rear window heater or the mirror defrosters (in fact I am not sure if my mirrors are heated or not). |

When you have the headlights on some evening, turn the knob. You should notice that the lights on the knob become brighter. I'm not sure if there is an accompanying action within the car, but I just discovered the "brightening" phenomenon a few weeks ago after replacing my radio.
