headlight buckets removable?

Are the headlight buckets (the part with the flange and the welded in nut for the rim's lower screw) removable? I see a big bolt on the bottom, but thought I'd ask before I tried...the nut in mine is stripped and I'm thinking it might be easier to find a replacement bucket than mess with it. If so, does anyone have a drivers side bucket in the Seattle area?

Well yes, and no.

They are welded in. But replacement buckets are routinely available (from your local dealer or Stoddard, $100 and change last time I bought one). Most any body shop could do the replacement for you.

The bolt you see just is an attachment point for the bumper IIRC. It doesn't remove the bucket.

If you have no rust in the bucket and the only problem is the headlight tab threads, you could either get somebody to weld in a new piece (tab with a nut brazed to it) or try one of those clip-on "speed nut" things.

Good luck,

In aerospace, we use something called "anchor nut". Its a cage with a floating nut, available in most metric and imperial sizes. The cage is riveted by 2 small rivets to the body. This can be a good replacement if only the thread is worked out.
Another method is to use a special sort of blind rivet-basically a 'rivet-in-thread!.

But both methods require the flange still there, of course.
