80 sc chain tensioner rebuild
I have a rebuild kit on the way from our host. I have the factory manuels and a lot of info from members. I have removed the first snap ring and alum. retainer. i have also removed the bleed screw and sealing ring. This part was easy. Next I am supposed to carefully remove the piston from the body. For the life of me, I can not get the piston assembly to budge. I can turn it but not get it to come out. What is next? Thanks for the help.Beany

Hope this helps. There is another smaller snap ring down in there right at the shoulder of the piston. By the way, also a major pain in the arse to get back in. Just take your time with it and eventually you will get a lucky break. Took my a few dozen tries putting them back together.

chain tensioner rebuild
I was able to get it apart without too many bad words. It was interesting because insdide the tensioner I found a bunch of black gook. Not what I would think was oil. Also, I did not have any o rings anywhere. I also did not have the small ball and small spring below the piston. It is like they dissolved. The piston is binding a little so I will take my time to find the binds and lightly refinish to get it to move properly.

That metal ball wont just dissolve, I am guessing someone had it apart before and didn't put it back together correctly. Or, it could all be jammed up inside the piston.

chain tensioner rebuild
I have tried everything to get the small snap ring back into its groove with the piston "depressed". Nothing seems to allow me to get it started and then push the rest of the ring into its groove. I have had the piston fully depressed in the body, depressed just below the snap ring groove, etc. Nothing seems to get it started.
Any help would be greatly appreciated . I am close to going postal...... |
