My Backdated Hot Rod Project is Underway!

OK, so I'm knee deep into this hot rod project now and too excited not to post the progress. I've been around the Pelican Racer forum for years, and I built the V3 race car starting with a stock SC, but details and finish were of no concern. Different this time.

I live in the north end of the Santa Monica Mtns, 10 minutes away from Decker, Encinal, and Mulholland Cyn Rds. I've always wanted a street legal canyon rocket and really don't enjoy my wife's 997S (and she doesn't enjoy letting me drive it). I've been lurking and asking a few questions here for a couple months now and I really appreciate everybody's input.

I've enlisted the best in SoCal for this project including John Esposito for sheet metal, backdating, and paint, Dave at TRE for details, parts, and reconstruction, and Allan Faragallah at Aase Motors for motor and tranny. The end result of this bare metal resto will be a personalized 2100lbs, 10.5.1 3.4L, ITB, twin plug screamer. I'm really not looking to clone or tribute anything. I just love Porsches and the look of the long-hood cars and want to make this my own.

Here's how she arrived...

At John Esposito's for stripping, rust repair, backdating, and paint. John is a perfectionist and far more picky than I am. He's the kind of guy you can just drop it off and forget about it. it's unbelievable how detailed his work is.

Subscribed. Thanks for the pics after removing the windshield and rear window...makes me wonder what's lurking underneath my seals. I'd send mummy-mouse back to the owner; he may be looking for it

Kinda jealous, not every Pelicaner gets to live near TRE.

You have no idea! I don't know what I'd do without Dave and TRE on this project. He has been unbelievably patient with me through all the style options and part choices. ...Although I'm sure he's ready to kill me (I'm about as passive as a wolverine on methamphetamine ).

I am lucky to live here, with TRE having the parts in stock to build a complete R, ST, or RS new from scratch...Allan Faragallah at Aase Motors being one of the premier air-cooled race and street motor builders in the country....and John Esposito who can pound out a perfect set of ST flares from a rusty boat anchor.

That's no joke. This car showed zero outward indication of having any rust. From a non-destructive inspection it was perfect. As soon as I pulled the rear window my stomach went sick. Was it Neil Young? "Rust Never Sleeps".

Craig,
Good luck with the project. Should be a screamer. You've got the right people lined up.

regards,
al

Maybe I'm missing something here but I'm trying to figure out what you started with?
Never mind, I checked your other posts and you're looking for a dash pad for a '75 so using my limited deductive skills I'm guessing this was a '75.
Should be a great project.

Good luck and have fun!

I am in the final stages of mine, just gotten it painted and now putting all the bits back on, but it looks better and better every day and that helps!
