Looking for shop that specializes in MFI

As the thread title states, I am looking for a shop that has someone that knows MFI like the back of their hand. It also needs to be a shop that I can trust to be very careful with my car.
Since people are going to ask, the basic background is that the car will not idle properly. It acts almost the same as the issues described in this thread:
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/903447-73-911s-wont-idle.html
I've come to the conclusion that I am not going to have time to play with it anymore, so I would like to just take it to a trustworthy shop that actually knows MFI. Anywhere in the continental U.S. is fine, but if there is anything close to Chicago, that is a plus.

Reach out to member cmpski here on the board. He's out of Denver and restoring our 69E. He knows an old skool gent who, from what Chris tells me, is very fluent in all things MFI and will be installing / tuning our engine when it goes back in (which should be very soon). There's also Ed Mayo (Mayo Performance) another guru out of Texas OR Henry Schmidt (Supertec) out of California maybe can give you direction. Good luck!

Well, here in Texas, we are lucky to have 2, the shop I've used for over 30 years; Jones Autowerkes in San Antonio and Ed Mayo in Fort Worth.
Either one can straighten you out. Once MFI is set up correctly, it requires very little adjustment.
The main problems occur from unqualified people moving things, they know nothing about.

You didn't mention state of your injectors. I've been working on my MFI for about 18 months and I just purchased a injector tester from Mercedes source.com and an ultra sonic cleaner. Pretty sure my final issues lie with crusty injectors. MTF

If you want to make a ho of it your self there is a book called "Check, Measure, Adjust". It details the procedures. Interestingly, the last thing they have you mess with is the MFI System. They want the others subsystems top notch before you start messing with the pump.

Tom,
You've been after this problem for a while, if you can't enjoy your car because of this problem, "just do it"

Yeah, I purposefully avoided mentioning what has already been done, as I don't want to turn this into a tech session. No matter what helpful hints people have, I simply have no time to work on the car anymore. I just want to take it to someone else so I can enjoy driving it again.

Tim Pott at Arbor Motion in Ann Arbor is pretty good, but I don't know his MFI experience.

Henry Schmidt is an expert.

I'm sure TRE or TLG in the Hollywood area could take care of you.

Loren Beggs at 911 Design has no trouble with mine.

But of course those are all in CA. I'm sure there must be plenty of others.

Not sure where you are in Michigan, but the best I know here is Automotive Techniques / Jeff Jones, in Novi. Incredible air cooled knowledge and experience. He'll help you out for sure.

Good luck.

This is the guy for you, he works out of his house, or out of another shop close by when they need his services. Look up his name on this board, few posts, but an amazing tech. If he cant do it, he will push you to someone that will be able to either in il or wi.

Stock car with an MFI issue? I'm seeing some top race shops mentioned but I'm not sure this sort of problem really warrants shipping the car to the "best".

Call Claudio at Foreign Car Service Kalamazoo. He can get you sorted.

Don't all Porsches deserve the best?

Yes, they deserve the "best" but the definition of best depends on your goals. For normal stuff, a decent shop can take care of you. Unless you have a special need, the "secret sauce" of a race or high end shop may not get you much more.

Here in Portland, we have a variety of shops that cater to different levels of needs (and budgets). In the end, the good shops are the good shops. Visit them and find one that meets your needs and pocket book.

Yep, this is why I specifically am looking for a shop that specializes in MFI. Every state will have great Porsche shops, but 40 years later, there are only going to be a few that have an MFI expert.
My definition of "best" in this case is the tech who knows MFI like the back of his or her hand, working at a shop that I can trust to be very careful with my car.

If you check with some of the NE longhood guys several recommend ROCS. I know of two well sorted MFI cars that go there for all their work.

If Matt recommends the shop in Kalamazoo, call them since its semi-close.

I'm bringing this dead thread back to the top just for anyone who may do a search on the same subject in the future. I ended up taking Matt Monson's advice and took the car to Foreign Car Services in Kalamazoo, MI.
import auto repair, Foreign Car Services Portage, MI Home
As soon as Claudio (the owner) started asking me all the right questions, I knew right away he was knowledgable about MFI.
I just picked the car up two weeks ago, and it runs again like it did when it was brand new. I could not be happier with the work they did, and am also pleased that they were very careful with my car.
It rolled 44,000 miles on the odometer on the ride home - it took so long to get that last thousand miles put on, I had to pull over and take a photo!
