Added keyless entry to my 80SC Targa
One of the things that always bugged me was not having a remote to unlock the door and then having to reach over to unlock the passenger door. So I installed a key-less Entry System (KES) and now, I can unlock the car remotely. I still have the factory alarm system and has been integrated it into the KES via a relay. I never did have the alarm key so it has been disarmed since I bought the car in 1991. By design the alarm is unarmed when it senses the 4.7K from the key switch on the drivers door. When the key is turned to arm the system a second 4.7K resistor is added in parallel and reduces the resistance to 2.35K and arms the system. The KES energizes a relay and adds a second 4.7K resistor to arm the system instead of the key switch. Also, I added a flashing led to a vacant light socket on the upper portion of the tach for an alarm active indicator. I never liked not having a interior light on while trying to start the car at night. The KES has an output that can be used with a relay to turn on the interior light for 30 seconds after the door is closed.

Nice, did you do the factory lock/unlock button on the console?...or do you operate it with a key remote?, how did you run wires in the doors?

Don't you mean unlock her door, hold it open... and hope she unlocks your side :) Seriously though, good skills. It sure gives the key hole and mechanism a lot less grief. Thanks for the good idea. |

I did this project recently, my actuators fit best and worked best when I placed them directly below the door latch, so they pushed/pulled up and down. My latches even had an extra hole in them which I assume was for power locks. Made for a very clean installation. When I attempted to install mine horizontally, after installing the door panel, once in a while, the actuator would get kit by the window rolling up or down.

Great modern day convenience to our older cars.
Sonett43 do you have a pic of your install? I have been thinking of installing it like targa80. |

I don't, not right now. Next time I take the door apart, I'll take some photos, it all depends on the size and shape of the actuators. But I mounted mine in a similar way to the factory units used on later cars, thought if it was good enough for them....
