3.2 Caliper Color - Factory
 

Now that my track days are done, I am going to rebuild my calipers one final time(optimism) on my 1984 Targa.

The last time I rebuilt them, I blasted them in my buddies cabinet and then coated the outside with WD40. Needless to say, that did not last long, and now they look all rusty again.

This time, I am going to hit them with some caliper paint as soon as they come out of the blast cabinet.

Soooo... what color should I use? Since these are stock calipers, there is no way I want to go the total poseur route and paint them red. Were they gold or were they silver when they left the factory? And does anyone have a preferred brand of paint? I am hoping that a rattle-can job will at least look presentable.

If I'm not mistake they were a gold anodized color

These are SC A Calipers which would be the same color as the Carrera Wide A caliper.

I had these done at PMB Performance and the cost was $350 for the pair which includes complete rebuilding and restoring.

Realistically they were far more silver than gold as evidenced by factory photos from back in the day and the color of new ones you can still buy today. That being said, how about sending them out to be plated?

PMB is the way to go. I had the same experience, blasted the calipers then watched them get coated with rust. Blasted them again and used High Temp Black on them. That worked for a while but I was never comfortable I got all of the grit out of the internal passage ways. So a few years later, sent them to PMB and it was worth it. Eric is a five star guy and very easy to deal with.

I did the calipers on the 88 in silver with a caliper paint kit. Did it about 6 years ago and they still look great. Tough stuff. Blasted and rebuilt then painted. Did it all myself for a lot less than $350 for all 4. A LOT less.
