I get it now. I have it right! Well, I got confused from reading some of the other posts. All trying to be helpful. So here's the deal. I have the "D" side of the compressor going up into the rear condenser and the "S" side coming from the front of the car down the long hose. And indeed the "S" side of the compressor is cold from the refrigerant being sucked into the compressor! So now I will fit it with 2 more clamps and test it with the rear hood down!

Excellent.
This winter you can do the nasty and take the hoses off and have them properly crimped at an industrial hose supply place. It's cheap. As long as you are the grunt that takes the hoses to them.
I believe the worm clamps will work as long as your pressures don't go off the scale because of an obstruction, but your lines probably aren't even flared on the ends to prevent slip off, let alone pressure loss. View as temporary.
FWIW, I have tried to repair a transmission cooling line on a domestic pickup - the pressure side lines - with rubber (transmission) hose and clamps. Not wise.
