Motor Swap: first start....
Getting ready to fire up my 76 911s after a 2.7 to 3.0 swap. Have a few questions. The book is mostly related to rebuilt first starts. Should I change the oil after running it? The 3.0 was running as few as 6 weeks ago.
Also, would the best way to prime the oil pump without firing the engine be to disconnect the 6 pin CDI or coil? I wanted to run some fuel through the lines prior to connecting the feed to the accumulator, can this be accomplished in the same fashion as priming the oil system? Any other words of wisdom would be appreciated, Its come a long way. Im just gas and spark away now and getting some butterflies. |

Pull the fuse on the pump and the red wire to the CD coming off the chassis harness.

Start-up.......
Chris,
These are my routine procedures for initial run or start-up after an engine rebuild: 1). Disable the ignition system by unplugging the CDI or coil. 2). Disable the FP by removing the FP relay. 3). Turn the engine over by cranking the starter a few times. 4). Test run the FP for several seconds to check for any fuel leak in the system. 5). Replace everything back to normal. 6). With a fully charged battery, you should be able to start the engine on the first attempt or second. ![]() Tony |

To "prime" the oil pump you could remove the plugs and crank the motor (with the ignition turned off) until you have oil pressure. Do not just pull the wire out of the coil, either pull the plug off the CDI or ground the high tension wire coming out of the coil.
Running the fuel pump with the engine off will prime the fuel system.

As for the oil, you are not breaking in a new engine, so you would not have to follow all the oil changes used for a rebuilt eingine.
