3.2 No-Start - My Solution

My Targa has been sitting for a while. When I went to start it yesterday, it would turn over fine, but would not start. Hmmm. Being a simple minded person, I thought I would start with the easy stuff first. So I used the small key - in the door - to ensure that the alarm system was not armed. Unfortunately, I armed the system and got the blowing horn when I tried to start the car. So then I opened the door and shut off the alarm. And on the next attempt the car started immediately.

I have no idea what is going on here, but at least my car will start.

Has anyone else ever encountered this situation?

And if your 3.2 will not start, at least you could try this. It may work for you as well.

Check your DME relay, it is connected to the alarm, ignition and fuel pump. Turing the alarm on may have jossled the connectors. I would clean them at the relay just in case.

For the no start, did you smell fuel when it did not start, If not then your relay may be ready to go, not engaging the fuel pump. You do have a spare right? She is trying to warn you. :-)

Nope, this never happened to my 3.2 and I rarely use the OEM alarm unless top is off.

Draco, I do not ave a spare, so I will order an extra ASAP. I appreciate your input.

No fuel smell on the no start.

To check whether a no-start is caused by your alarm unit (no power to DME) simply check if the ICV vibrates when the key is in RUN position.

And as Draco said a spare DME relay is always a good idea. If it fails (the first stage) the symptoms are the same. The DME will not get powered and the ICV will not vibrate. And no fuel, no spark.
