Is this for real?

This seems like a good deal. The seller is rather convincing. Is the price on this car to much or a bargain? Do you see anything wrong?http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1866185809

Brian,

Are you looking for an early car now?

The add is rather convincing, and looks like it could be a fun car.

Matt,

I am always looking. I am not necessarily buying though. I still have my 993 and will most likely keep it until I need to sell it, which I hope is not for some time! If I cam across a real good deal on an early car I may consider it. I enjoy looking at ebay cars in my area, mostly for entertainment.

Looks like a nice unmolested car at a fair price. However, the stock 2.2L T motor will likely leave you a bit disappointed in the horsepower category. -- Curt

Ewwww! It's a TARGA! Seriously, looks like a very nice car...a beauty. 2.2 T's? Well, there certainly weren't "S" models, but they have adequate power...even for today's driving. (edit) If the car is really as advertised, I don't find the price out of line...

This is just me.... but I'd never want ANY car that had been Z-barted or subjected to any other similar rust treatment. They drill holes all over your pristine chassis, pump nasty chemicals everywhere, and then install all these lame looking plastic plugs to fill the holes they drilled. To me, it just looks awful and it's no way to treat a car like a Porsche.

My opinion only. I don't care how nice a car is, if it was Z-barted, I'm walking.

Rustproofing wouldn't bother me on this car...assuming the description is accurate, it's been very well maintained and has remained rust-free for all these years in Maine. Considering it is a non-galvanized car, I don't see the down-side. If the car had spent its life in Arizona it might be another story.

Just my 2 cents.

Ziebart..

..this process has saved many cars from this insidious cancer called RUST. My 70S was "Z'ed" back in the day, and it shows today. The plugs are not visuable, and are really no differnt that the "other" plugs located in the door jams or front and rear trunks. Just my $.02..

Ditto on mine. I'm a believer.

On the horsepower issue: I've driven a stock 2.2T and it actually had better performance than I expected. Just not S performance. Or 2.5 performance. -- Curt

burning the candle..

I think I may have a "new project" on the horizon, Todd. That car is way too nice for my Rgruppe mentality. I had delusions a few weeks ago of turning my S into a R-car look, but my wifes' hand hit the back of my head and brought me back to my senses..Seriously, way too busy with the Angels on their way to the "World Series"....WE did beat up on the Yankees, didn't WE ??

Yeah, I thought you had some sadistic targa thing planned, or did that fall through? If your wife needs backup have her call me...you may not mod your S-car.

These games were much fun. I found myself yelling at/with the TV for the first time in a long time while watching a baseball game. It is great to see a team of youngsters and cast-offs that appear to play because they love it rather than because they are getting $10mil/year to do it.

You guys play ruff !

Hey, my second Porsche was a '75 Carrera Targa and to boot it was yellow !!

..The 67S Targa guy sort-a flaked on me. I shouldn't have shown so much interest..he was just going to sell for $1000.00 / no motor. It had a 3.0, and the mechanic just wanted the motor. I looked at the early sport seats it had in it, and figured just those were worth $1500.00. Oh well, S**t happens.

hey Curt..I would never rule out a car because it was a Targa. I would really like to find a '72-'73 Targa that hasn't been molested to keep for a beach cruiser..We need those here in LA.
