A Kid run a red light and really messed up my 1980 911
I am sick to my stomach!!!!!!I have had the car for two weeks now. So, today I decided to go to a car show here in Long Island. On my way home a kid with a scion run a red light and hit me. My luck!!!! So what do you guys think? Serious damage or not? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1417367307.jpg

Long as the frame is not damaged, you should be fine. I hope the moron has insurance?
Is that moisture stain on the street from your car? |
The car can be fixed. It's not too bad. You'll want to find someone that is familiar with that era of 911, I wouldn't take it just to any body shop. FInd a good shop, then let them deal with the insurance company. You can pick who you use and you can insist that it gets fixed correctly.

Wow! What luck...
It is hard to tell until the fender is off. However, you did have some luck. At least the "hipster hamster" didn't hit the wheel area. So maybe the car didn't inquire a lot of suspension damage. |
Looks pretty serious to me. Find a shop with a Celette and 911 fixtures.
|
Thanks for the reply. That's what I was thinking too, as long as there is no frame damage I should be ok. The guy believe it or not lives in the same apartment complex as we do and has the same insurance coverage.
|
When you get the car back check the paint color under a flourescent lights at night this will insure the colors match or at least were blended properly.
Don't forget wheel alignment too |
This doesn't look too bad. I still would have cussed the little hamster out. Looks like fuel on the ground though?

That big hollow fender makes a great crumple zone.
I'll but it isn't nearly as bad as it looks. The other fender gap looks good so that says a lot about what is going on underneath. As others have said, a good shop familiar with these cars can do well. I'd be tempted to find a shop that does restorations. Many of them have to replace far worse chassis damage from rust, so if there is much going on underneath they should have the means to fix it properly. |
Damn man, we were just complimenting you on your car in your intro thread. This sucks! Glad you are ok. Mine must have suffered a similar fate on the drivers side before I owned it. The repair was horrible so I will address that sometime in the future. Even with the crappy repair, my car still handles and drives real well. I think this is totally fixable.

Please tell me his Honda was totaled. It would poetic justice.
|
I'll chime in with those who think that it's repairable, but too bad that this is necessary - especially so soon into your ownership. Or, is that part actually a blessing?
You didn't answer if the liquid is gasoline. Hope not. |
post something on the paint and bodywork forum - the guru 962Porsche will hopefully weigh in and tell you what you are up against.
|
That sucks! Find a good body shop and have it fixed. They absolutely must check for structural damage.
|
Glad to hear your ok. What is that liquid on the floor???
|
In all honesty, I was so pissed off at the moment and in addition to dealing with the cop preparing the accident report I did not even pay attention to the liquids on the floor. I saw the pictures at home and then I noticed it. Most likely it is from my car.
|
I sure will. Thank you for the info my friend.

Stuff happens, but at least you're OK (still pissed off, but at least not physically injured). These days, you have to drive as if you're invisible!
Once the fender is removed, you'll know what's underneath. However, getting an experienced body shop that's familiar with 911s will be the best advice. |
