Shop to Fit/Paint FG duck and bumpers SF Bay Area?

Hello all!

I posted this in the Paint/Body section, but it doesn't seem to be getting many eyes over there.

I'm looking to add a set of Getty bumpers and a ducktail to my 86 911, and wonder if there's a preferred shop in the SF Bay Area to do the work.

I plan on doing the initial bolting on and such, but I imagine there will be a little fitting involved even though they are good quality pieces, so it would be nice if it were someone who had some experience with our cars.

Thanks in advance for the leads!

Whitman's in San Rafael is well regarded and knows all there is to know about Porsches. Ask for Patrick and you will get the straight scoop. They also offer a PCA discount.

take a look into the bumpers that dave at TRE in so cal has. I used his stuff and the fit & finsh was very, very good. his units come with mounting hardware that provides a ton of adjustment that you will have to determine if are fit for your application or not. they were for mine. .others i know have used them as well and have had the same results.

you will pay a ton to have the bumpers and deck lid fit by a per hour body shop. id say get them set yourself after pulling off the stock units and installing what ive suggested. or drive down to the south bay & pay me in beer to help YOU do it..... the set of the lid much like the bumpers is patience.

Whatever way you end up facilitating the install, make sure that you share some pics when it is completed!

Thanks Car 311. I'm planning on Getty for the parts, which seem to have a pretty good rep around here as well, no? I was considering TRE as well, but Getty is doing some customizing to the front bumper for me that I haven't seen commercially available. I seem to see just as many props for both companies.

I definitely plan on doing the initial install myself, but if it gets to where greater massaging is needed, (hopefully not) that gets outside my skill set and work space. If I'm not mistaken, the parts are going to have to come back off the car for paint, no?

There will definitely be photos, dyusem. :-)

well this is a timely thread
motofoto, I'll be following this thread and please report your findings on the fit and amount of work required for the Getty ducktail as I need to replace my unknown ducktail I bought from a Pelican 10+ years ago.
Thanks,
Ed

yeah, fit everything. then let it sit on the car for a while if you can so everyone gets familiar with one another, then remove & paint.

its likely the deck will take some shimming, I used some thin aluminum stock against the fiberglass deck spanning the entire hinge length/width and washers against the hinge. I shimmed another deck that required a lot of work using nylon cutting board stock from target.

Thanks guys. I'll report back when I've gotten the parts on the car, and when the paint is applied, seems there are some other locals looking to do the same! :-)
