Air Fuel Ratio Gauge-Need Recommendations

I'm planning on installing one of these AFR gauges, AEM, Prosport, Innovative, or Dynotune...in my 1988 Carrera...any recommendations? I'm leaning towards the last one from Dynotune...two reasons, it's calibrated to .001 volts, and it's cost effective compared to the others shown below. Thanks

If it uses a wide band O2 sensor, that's good and minimal to accurately read the mixture settings.

Better if the system is accurate, well-built and price-reasonable.

Also good if you can easily equate sensor voltage to the desired fuel mixture instead of using the more commonly-used A/F ratio numbers.

What do they want for the meter you're interested in using?

$89 for the Dynotune guage and it utilizes my current O2 sensor...

i had the innovate in my RX7. it came with the wide band O2 sensor, and you can data log on your laptop, and tie it into lots of popular tuning software. If the dynotune ties in to your current O2 sensor,(which most likely is narrow band) You are just wasting your $$. You might as well hook up some christmas lights.

Another option, http://www.inyourfacegauges.com/

I have one in my 930 for boost and AFR.

Willtel,

Since I have a normally aspirated Carrra, I sent an email to Dave at In Your Face Gauges asking if they are making a round AFR gauge to fit in the same location as my VDO clock that hasn't worked in years...I would rather have a gauge like this instead of my clock anyway...I can always go "old school" and look at my watch for the time...

PS...looks nice!

This looks like a nice piece of hardware...

http://www.inyourfacegauges.com/osc/product_info.php?cPath=23_30&products_id=80

I would definitely consider this for my naturally aspirated car.

Which second sensor would you add? The AFR, EGT or Oil pressure sensor?

What is AIT? Is that Air Intake Temp?

The wideband combo is Your factory tachometer combined with the OLCD display and includes the display control module, wideband module and wideband sensor, connecting cables, remote and software CD in a kit. This requires customer provided factory 911 or 930 Turbo Tachometer

$650.00

I went with a TechEdge device - best money I ever spent on my 911

See this thread for full details of my WBO2 install:
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?t=364450

I monitor much more than just AFR, I currently monitor and log the following via laptop:
AFR
RPM
AirFlow - Air Flow Meter 0-5v signal
Cyl Head Temps - via the stock 3.2 Carrera CHT sensor
MPH
And somtimes I swap between CHT and WOT switch.

Simply amazing what you can setup with these WBO2 devices. If I did it again I would purchase a 2 sensor system - one for each exhaust bank.

TechEdge is an Australian company... (Feeling rather proud about that)

Great thread by the way!

Dave can do a clock with no problems. I've seen a photo of one he did but I can't find it now. I believe he now has three displays in his 965 that is in the YouTube video. I'm not sure about the round part as the screen is an actual OLED display that is square.

AIT is air intake temp. The cool thing about these is that you can monitor up to 32 parameters with a single display with up to 4 on the display at one time. Warnings can also be set to change the display color or flash an image if a certain criteria is met. It is all very customizable.

I love the IYF gauge, I wonder if Dave at IYF would be able to utilize my stock non-turbo tach that does NOT have an opening at the bottom of it?

I don't' see why not, mine only had the hole for the needle of the boost gauge and he cut out the face of the gauge using a router and a template.

There's all kinds of modules you can add on to Dave's gauge to monitor all kinds of things. The sensor modules daisy-chain together, so it's really easy to just add another sensor module to the chain, really a cool item, and you can download or create custom gauge faces too! It's the one I chose. I've spoken with Dave at length, he's a really nice and knowledgeable guy, he will be able to answer all your questions, including which gauges are compatible and what-not, give him a call.

Do you have any pictures of the custom gauge you use? I now have mine set up to match the rest of my gauges and it looks pretty good, I haven't added any custom ones yet.

I haven't added any custom ones yet either, I use the numeric display mode most of the time right now.

I know this is a very old thread but In Your Face gauges website is down, does anyone know if they are still operating or know a place where I could look at similar in gauge AFR displays.

A/F gauge...........

I put one of the red Innovate gauges in my SC when I rebuilt the engine. Seems to work pretty well, but would be better with the signal damped just a bit so that the reading doesn't change as often. The ups and downs are not big, maybe 1 or 2 tenths but still distracting. The red is difficult to see in the daylight, but is ok in the late afternoon and evening. Having the gauge makes it easy to properly adjust the CIS. I mounted the gauge under the dash on my SC and had to extend a couple of wires in order to do so. Overall, I am satisfied with the gauge.

I have this Innovate G5 gauge, it looks real nice and matches the look of the stock gauges.

You can get this gauge with controller for around $200 these days.

I bought a 2" gauge pod and placed the gauge in the corner of the dash as you see in the picture. The gauge is in your face at all times and easy to see.

I added the Innovate AFR. Was instrumental in getting the MFI correctly adjusted after engine rebuild. Mine installs into the cigarette lighter. It can be quickly unplugged and put in the glove box if the plug is needed for something else (phone charger or radar detector). No holes to drill or any permanent changes.
