Kudos to John Walker of Seattle

I wanted John to rebuild my SC's 915 transmission and he was so obliging. I drove the car down from Vancouver arriving at 7am at his garage this morning June 8. He starts work at 715am dropping the engine and then doing the rebuild. New 1st and 2nd dog teeth and bands. Plus he fixes triangle of death, the breather hose, a torn CV boot, gives me another 10hp by unplugging o2 sensor and adjusting fuel mixture. Plus loads of recommendations around suspension improvements, braking and fuel injectors. I paid him at 630pm after he's put in 10 gruelling hours. On top of it all, felt like a new transmission and car on my way back to Vancouver tonight.

Everyone within 500 miles of Seattle should be using this guy. Just outstanding. Thanks so much John.

Sounds like a fantasy here on the East Coast. We've got our fair share of excellent shops, but this is above and beyond. So jealous. I'm putting my Connecticut house on the market so I can move west and north! Thanks for the inspiration.

His shop alone is worth the trip. Come during the Greenwood Car Show (June 27), one of the most amazing collections of cars displayed along Greenwood for several miles, with John's shop sporting some amazing Packards, etc.

But yeah, he is amazing and as I have written before, while he is in there so much stuff gets sorted out. Worth every dollar you spend in his shop - your car will love you for it!

John is well known and very highly regarded in the Porsche community. I have heard several heroic saves by John which shows what an outstanding guy he is. As a result, he will never be allowed to retire. And for the record. John does not owe me money- yet

Let me get this strait. John dropped the motor and tranny, fixed some leaks, went through the gearbox and replaced parts, reinstalled motor and gearbox, and re-set fuel injection all in the course of one workday while you waited?

That's way above and beyond for a shop. Hope you left him a nice tip, or at least a bottle of his favorite beverage!

My reaction same as Josh D's: that's an unbelievable amount of work for a shop (one man shop?) in just one day, long though it was. Of course, John has all this stuff down pat, as his frequent pithy posts here show. So I am sure he doesn't lose a lick having to fetch a different wrench or whatnot. But this is just amazing. Bravo

We are fortunate here in Seattle to have two of the best Porsche mechanics in the business, John Walker and Chris Powell of Chris's German Auto service, Member of PCA National Technical Committee All 911, 1974-1994.

I have never heard a single negative thing about John from anyone, ever -- and I've been listening for 15 years.

He really deserves all of the praise he gets.

I was a very happy customer of Mr Walker a few years back, even have the engine compt sticker to prove it. My p-car wears it proudly. Wish I was so lucky here in FL.

I called John last week and asked if he would be willing to take a look at an '82 SC that I was considering. He told me that he would be in the middle of a 915 rebuild (OP's car), but could spare a few minutes to look it over.

I drove it to his shop on Monday, he looked over the car, BS'd with me a little bit, took it for a quick spin, and gave me his thoughts. He wouldn't accept payment.

Amazing guy. Extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. As stated above, his shop is worth the visit.

I'll be shipping my transmission to him if it ever goes.

Well here's something negative - John has been heard to be mumbling something about the future and the R-word - retiring

He seems to be much younger than he says he is, so here's to hoping that R-word was just random musings.

JW in Seattle...

I almost have the coin for my build... I need John to work my 915 over to include new 2nd through 5th gears and a LSD.

I also need him to build my 3.0 with early 3.0 CIS & heads, Max Moritz P&C's, 964 cams, etc..

I don't like rumors of a pending retirement, I need him to transform my old SC into a beast!!
