targa top uncliped on front

I notice that when I install my top, at the first bump in the road that flexes the car at all, the middle front roof clips which hold the folding front strut disengage

Recommendations please

There is some adjustment available in those clips. Slightly loosed the screws, try to shift them over and re tighten. It's also possible that the cloth holding the roof panels in place may have deteriorated and they're no longer aligned properly. In that case, time to give Dan a call (CarsInc.com).

However, it's best to just drive with the top off!

There are longer clips available. Make sure the frame has not been worn away.

Hyper... The backing plates that the screws screw into float on the other side of the roof plates. These backers may stay in place when the 2 screws are removed if the roof is not moved but... they can get "lost" in the roof if the roof is moved/tilted. Suggest always having one screw & washer in the backing plate to prevent them from getting lost.

As Jack mentioned, there's some adjustment provided in the roof plate to tune hook positions. In the event longer hooks do not suffice, grinding the holes in the roof plates to allow the screws more movement in the roof plate is the answer. Notice there is rise in the roof plate preventing the backing plate from a great deal of movement towards the center of the roof (which is always the direction needed to tighten the hooks to the roof.)

A backing plate in position...
