3.2 needs improved finishing note
Exhaust/muffler needed!
I have a wonderful 1989 3.2 Carrera G50 with 116k, I am the third (and newbie) owner. It arrived in February with a Weltmeister chip, K&N cone, a debaffled 84mm Dansk twin tip muffler 2 in 1 out, RUF rear bumper and Dansk cat bypass - it ran loud, it ran sluggish, with noticeable throttle lag. Working with a great shop in the Bay Area, we cleaned up the intake (dated K&N cone back to a factory air-box), had the injectors cleaned at RC Engineering in SoCal, installed a new C2 spec cam, Steve Wong chip and now the car runs great – pulling hard from 4k. It is joy to drive but it also comes with lots of droning, extra noise – I like loud, but with more of a SSI precision sound. My shop agrees and also said some added back pressure will increase low-end pull as well. What recommendations do you have for a cat/muffler solution? My goal is simple – more low-end performance and less extraneous noise. I see 2 affordable options: 1. Remove the Dansk cat delete and keep the de-baffled 84mm sport exhaust - this will build back pressure and reduce some of the noise 2. Keep the Dansk cat delete and put on a new (baffled) twin sport muffler - this will also build back pressure and reduce noise Which approach is better to achieve this goal? Both ideas should improve back pressure and reduce noise – but not sure which is a smarter move. Extra points for a twin or single tip sport muffler recommendation. Thx – I have really enjoyed learning from these PP forums, John |
