Slantnose fender question

I have a pair of slantnose fenders on my updated 1972 911. When I pulled them off today I noticed that they both have a Porsche sticker on the inside upper end near the door.

It has a part number (?) *WPQE80912HS171473*

Is this a part number or a VIN number?

Can anyone tell from the pictures if they are originals or aftermarket? They are very well made.

I always hear that the underside is where you can tell the difference, that's why all of the pictures are from the underside.

They are all steel

That is a VIN number. The "q" is an o.
They at least started with factory steel fenders but would need better pics to see if the rest is factory.
How about pics of the side of the headlite housing towards the body?
Do you have the headlite assemblies?

They have headlights in them but I installed them. I bought Mazda motors and installed them.

Let me see if I can snap a few pictures of the headlight buckets

I can't get the headlight buckets open, guess I need to drag a battery out to get them open and take pictures.

The flares are welded on but are expertly done. There is a very thin coat of seam sealer over the weld but even after scraping it off you can still barely tell. Very nice welds and very straight seams.

Until I get the buckets open here are some more pictures:

If there were ever an original headlight assembly in them they are long gone. Besides the headlight assembly is there any other things to look for that would tell me whether they are originals or aftermarket?

To me it is strange that they both have a Porsche VIN sticker on them. That would be a good sign that they are originals, right?

I wouldn't think that you could take a normal fender and convert it to a slant nose.

Picture inside the headlight assembly.

Like I said, I installed RX7 headlights.

Don't think they are factory fenders

Any idea why they would have a Porsche sticker with a VIN number on them?

group911@aol.co 10-25-2015 04:20 PM

They were made from factory fenders of the car with that VIN.
They are for sure not factory slants though

Thanks for the insight.

Must be a heck of a job to convert a standard fender to a slant.

Some info here http://forums.pelicanparts.com/911-930-turbo-super-charging-forum/447083-slantnose-slant-nose-slope-m505-factory-930s-documents-registry-ultimate-flachbau.html

If they were thought to be original, the VIN sticker would show a 93 and not a 91.

Those are aftermarket inserts welded into the factory fenders. I did this conversion on my 77 930 back in 1990. I bought the inserts from Golden Custom Coachworks back then. I was a lot of work to cut, fit, shape and weld in the inserts. The inserts have a headlight bucket whereas the factory slant nose fenders have an headlight opening. I redesigned and installed upgrades to the Mazda headlight mechanism because the headlights shook too much at night. I like the slant nose look but now that that the value of early 930's have gone through the roof I wish I had not done it.
