took my newly aqquired 1976 911 with a 3.2l engine for a drive today and noticed my oil pressure guage reads at warm up idle around 20psi,revs at2k rpm my oil pressure guage reads 100psi and over that it will peg to 140psi as im cruising on the highway.runs great and no other issues, just seems extremely high to me.is this considered normal, what are you guys seeing as far as readings??

It sounds like the engine has the wrong oil pressure sending unit for the stock gauge in your '76.
Install a 2.7 OP sender and you'll likely be OK. This is a very common issue. ![]()

thank you for the reply.just tried the search engine in this forum and seen that many have had this issue with the engine swaps and wrong sending units.

I just had my motor top end rebuilt. The oil pressure sender was replaced. The PN appears to be correct but the gauge reads way too high.
Are there two ranges for the single PN (i.e. 0-5 bar and 0-10 bar)? Or do I have defective transmitter?

There is 2 series of oil pressure senders and gauges along with 2 series of temp senders.
The gauges and senders are supposed to match for correct readings The oil pressure senders and gauge through 77 was 0 to 10 atm. With the 3.0 SC the change was to 0 to 5 atm The temp gauge and sender changed about 76. On the engine, the temp sender through about 76 was brass with 901 part number stamped. After that the change was to a 911 part number sender in chrome finish Bruce |
