Well, more progress than I had planned most recently... we are moving a business to the building that we are currently using for our toy box and project place. So that means getting this 68 and the 85 I picked up, to a mobile state so they can be trailered to the house.

Let me dig up some pics...

Installed the brackets and test fitted the Elephant Racing 935 X Brace... this piece is fantastic. Should remove most of the wet noodle characteristics of this 912 chassis....

So, our business acquired half of another business, and we are moving that business into what is currently our 8000 square foot toy box and project shop.... so sad to lose my toy box, but good that business is advancing, etc...

But what that means is I now need to move my projects to my home-based shop.... which means they all need to be movable / rollable, etc.... It's kinda sad that it takes us buying another business for me to make some progress on my projects... I really don't deserve them I guess.

So, now that the KW goodness is installed on the front, I need to get the Instant-G stuff all squared away and on the car. The kit uses what I believe is a modified 944 hub, and puts the 996t rotor on the outside of it like a standard setup. Has a trick sexy ass adapter for the 996t caliper. Overkill and stupid, but oh well, F your couch.

First problem was that the bearings would NOT go on the KW spindles. I called Steve telling him I had the wrong bearings, and he told me essentially to stop being such a whiny b**ch and put the things on there. The mediocre machining and the super thick plating was making it difficult. So I emory cloth'd the things smooth and slid them on. Also the struts don't come with the spacers, so I had to source those from Pelican here. Also obviously my 68 912 thrust washer and clamp nut were too small, so I sourced those as well.... On to the photos...

Rotor on, adapter bracket on, caliper on, it's damn sexy. I will argue that it's the biggest dumbest brakes you have ever seen on a 912. Prove me wrong lol.

Clears a 17" CCW Race Classic no issue... could probably run a 16 if I wanted to.

Lookin good.

I might have to pick your brain about the new suspension.

I have a 77 that needs some torsion tube love in the rear but maybe it's worth it to just upgrade to something more modern...

ZERO aside from acquiring a 3.2/915 to put in it. May sell the whole project. I’ve lost the zest for finishing it.

I've been there. I've had the same feelings with my 5 year+ project. But I sincerely hope you find the desire to carry on with it. You've done some fantastic work here. Work that deserves to be finalized and enjoyed out on the road. Good luck.

This was incredible to read through. I am also doing a SWB car and I love the brake upgrade. Any chance you'd share the CAD file for the brake mounts or the machinist who made them? I'd like to follow suit.

Well well well.... it turns out I'm still a Porsche guy I guess. I have really hammered away on this thing the past few week.

It seems that having the car at my home shop, where i'm able to tinker with it more often, and not remain at work late, has created a new zest for working on it.

Onto the updates....

Sold the 1985 Targa chassis, but kept the 3.2 and 915 out of it for this build. Much easier to drop this running motor in with fuel injection. It needs some love, looks terrible, but will serve the purpose.

Of course exhaust will be removed in favor of a free flow, non heat units....

Finally got both rear caliper brackets test fitted on the SWB trailing arms. Custom one off brackets designed by Instant-G and machined locally from files by a friend. It's quite a feat to get a bracket and caliper/rotor this large to work on these bizarro swing arms, but here it is. Again, just test fitting. All stuff will be redone once final disassembly happens.
