Carb float level question
Well, turned the key on for the first time after a long wait. But, to my disappointment the floats are not correct. I switched out the needle valves and measuring the float settings outside the carbs everything seemed ok with the current shims (had no float issues before).
On both carbs, the bowl that supplies the 2 jet stacks is way to high, as in I don't even see where the fuel stops. I'm pretty sure it's that and not fuel missing all together. What could be the issue if it happens on both? The other bowl/float is fine. I haven't taken anything apart yet to check. Don't have time now, so it will have to wait :-(. Todd |
What carbs do you have? I'm guessing PMOs?
|
Yes, PMO. I guess I'll have to shim that float on each carb. Just seems odd that they were fine before, and that it's the same bowl on each carb.

Float Needles?
Sounds like your float needles aren't cutting off the fuel supply as your floats raise.
I had this happen on one of my carbs - found the rubber tip on one of the needles had broken off. Seems odd that you have multiple needles out of whack and not sure how that's possible if you recently replaced them - but I can't imagine anything else. Good luck, Gordo |
Took left side off. Everything measures ok (12mm). Needle seemed a little sticky in the body maybe. Pulled both floats off and switched needles front to back. It's much better now, but double bowl is still a little over the dot. I'll take it off and put the smallest shim in.
Oddly, the other side looks improved, but still high. I'll take that apart next weekend. Todd |
what is your fuel pressure? Has it changed?
|
It hasn't changed. 3.5 with just the pump running. Gauge bounces around with motor running, but essentially 3.5.
